Hi Guys, I just spent some time reading thru every post I could find in relation to Idle problems and I found some leads, but I figured I would post to see if anyone has any good ideas.

I started my car this morning, the car turned right over, rev'd to about 2500 or whatever is normal, and then dropped directly down to 0 and died. I repeated this process several times with the same result. After about 5 tries I gave the car some gas just as I started it, brought the RPM's up to about 4K and let go of the accelerator. This time the rpm's dropped to 1K then down to 750 and the car would idle.

I let the car sit for about 15min, basically waiting for it to throw some kind of cell. Nada. So I then drove the car arund in my subdivision for about 5min and returned it to it's parking spot. No problems.

I then shut the engine off and restarted - engine went up to about 2K then back to 0 and died. WTF!?

I spoke with some friends and did some reading on the old forum posts and the closest thing I can find is maybe a Speed sensor. I would however think that a bad speed sensor would cause the engine to die Every Time you accelerated and then stopped - which it doesn't.

Can any of you guys offer some advice on such a problem? I really hate evening thinking of taking my car in for service if I dont already know what the problem is. I'm lazy when it comes to fixing, but I try not to be car dumb.

just a thought..check the fuel pressure on start up, see if the pump is sending enough fuel to get you going and keep you going....check the crank sensor wiring, see if it is in good shape...make sure to check igniton coil connections alot of people have problems with the wires melting... but i think, just my 2 cents mind you, that it is a fuel pressure problem, in the sense you are not getting enough fuel on start up

Ok, i'll dig up how to test these bits out, as part of that, maybe I'll grab a new fuel filter, hell maybe something nasty gunked it up. Thanks for the advice.

BTW, after working with the service manual I found that the car's Throttle Body Idle Stepper Motor was funk. Replaced this with the Throttle Body gasket and it's all good.
