#56027, "Help...want to buy a DSM but have noticed of oil leaking ?????"

I am looking to buy an awesome looking 95 eagle talon TSI AWD...it has a turbo spoiler and a aftermarket front bumper and racing exaust, there is just one problem i had the car in my drive way to check it out, it runs fine and everything but when i backed it up i noticed fresh oil on my drive way..and when i checked how much oil it had in it...i could only get less than an inch on the dipstick...is this a major problem or does it just need a good oil change (Im not a mechanic so i dont know)any help would definatly be helpful....also the asking price is $3700 everything else is in good shape and runs fine, would this be a good buy or not...help please

try to get under the car to check out where the oil leak is coming from. from there, you can go on from there.

oil pan gasket, oil filter loose, rear main seal leaking (this would cause a slippy clutch though)

oil pressure sensor leaking turbo feed leaking, turbo dump leaking...

u need to find out where its coming from...

Bill

You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick any two.

If you want it cheap and fast, it's not going to be good.
If you want it cheap and good, it's not going to be fast.
If you want it good and fast, it's not going to be cheap.

...lol an AWD car shouldnt have a transfer case. A 4X4 would but I dont see an AWD having a transfer case. May be wrong but every AWD ive seen doesnt have a transfer case. just a differential before a driveshaft headed towards the back to the rear diff.

if ur not sure and u dont know alot about cars take it somewhere and spend a little cash and have them to check it out. They should be able to tell u were the leak is coming from and u can decide if its still worth as much as they want for it.

AWD DSMs have a transfer case. This is a well known fact.

At any rate, wouldnt the transfer case fluid most likely be ATF or GL, not a thinner oil.

I found the following info that someone else wrote when another guy had the exact same problem as me, just wondering what are your thoughts (trying to get as much info as possible)...................................................................Check your compression with a screw-in type compression gauge. This will tell you the general condition of the inside of your engine. The standard value is 180 psi for your car. I think the lowest value considered serviceable is 120psi for any cylinder on the 2g’s but I’m not certain on that point so double check it!

But generally speaking, if there is one cylinder with a value that’s 75% or less than the rest of the cylinders you’ve found your problem. You can then try pouring a tablespoon of clean engine oil into that cylinder and try the test again. If the compression comes up it means your piston rings and/or cylinder walls are worn. If the value does not raise, you probably have a head gasket or valve leak. If 2 adjacent cylinders are low and adding oil to them doesn’t raise compression it’s almost certainly a head gasket leak.

Q. Why did Mitsubishi paint the 4G63 block black?
A. So you cannot see the oil leaks!

Its very hard to tell you exactly what it can be or where its coming from. You really need to get the car up in the air a bit, and get under it. Get a good light and go hunting. You must look very, very closely and carefuly for where there is any oil. Anything we can tell you is just ideas for you..if there is oil under the car, then its coming from the engine somewhere..get under there and try and find it..once you find it, let us know where it is coming from, and we can tell you how serious it is, or what you need to do. Unfortunately, we cant get under the car for you and look emoji
