#55779, "accessory pulleys or crank pulley?????"

well i've looked everywhere for accessory pulleys cause i know the crank is a pita. well i have a buddy that owns a performance shop and is a dealer of all kinds of manufactures. I looked through ALL the catalogs and i found a company that makes accessory pulley kits for our cars. I was gonna order them but they were out of stock at the time. They claim 10-12 horse power i know this is always subject to speculation but for the price if i even got 6-7hp it's worth it. As far as u know does any other manufacture make pulley kits for our cars...? i have heard that unorthodox does but they are very expensive( or is this just a myth?). how much different are our pulleys from the turbo pulleys if any difference??? i ask this because some manufactures list the n/t and turbo crank pulley with the same exact part#. i would rather get the accessory pulleys cause they would be visible (polished finish available) and they would be easier to install. *OR should i just say screw it and get the crank pulley and underdrive every accessory?? he's installed crank pulleys before on other cars but not a n/t eclipse as far as he could recall. I really want another performance part i have the injen CAI with the short-ram option, and GS-T exhaust which i LOVE!!! If you have a better idea for a performance part let me know (it's my daily driver, so turbo isn't really an option neither is hi-comp). I would really appreciate good advice, specially if u know if there is gonna be a big difference between the accessory pulleys and the HP increase for the Crank pulley. The kit comes with a alternator and power steering pulley fyi. If i can get the accessory kit i will let u guys know what i think, and try to get a hook up for more of em. Thanks in advance for all your help, 2gnt is definately my favorite dsm site ever!

not to be a post whore but i searched ALOT and still just gives me more questions. someone said to use overdrive pulleys in combination with the underdrive crank???? i know how the underdrive crank works and all but it's just the overdrive acc. pulleys that gets my noodle twisted. i feel confused about cars for the first time since i learned how an internal combustion engine works. I hate being confused.

remember even if u do find them ... having on all these light weight pulleys .. will probably fry your alternator ... hows about for power removing your a/c altogether and removing the belt... thats a loss of around 40lbs and a 5hp gain ... u really cant argue ..

I'm too much of a baby in the heat I need my AC.
Why would light weight puleys fry your alternator?

There was a guy, Adam K_____ (something) who made an over/underdrive pulley for the alternator, he was on neons.org, we share the same alternator.
Underdrive if used by itself, overdrive if used in concert with the underdrive crank pulley.

The pulley is smaller than stock so by itself you underdrive the alternator. Used with the Underdrive crank pulley you bring the ratio in sizes of the two pulleys back and overdrive the alternator back up to around stock levels.

Smooth idle? We don't need no stinking smooth idle.

well the acc. pulleys were listed as overdrive pulleys. which would just make it easier to power the acc. but the crank would spin at the same rate anyway, right?? so where do the power gains come in at with overdrive acc pulleys? see i dont' want to pull out my a/c it does get hot here over the summer and i do ALOT of driving. i just figure i DON'T have a sound system in my car and i don't have anything that really takes alot of power over what my car would use stock. im not really worried about charging problems and with all the reading i have done no-one has had any real problems after the installation of the crank pulley. i was just hoping i didn't have to do that and take the easy way with the overdrive pulleys. Is there any other performance mod that i can do at this point that might make a bigger difference? Cause it seems like no-one has ever got the accessory pulleys before haha i could be the first!
