I just got a notice from the web host that 2gnt.com is greatly exceeding our space allotment (400+MB vs 100MB allowed).

They are demanding either an upgrade to a higher priced package, or the files over the limit be removed.

I cannot afford to pay myself the $70/mo fee to upgrade without a service interruption.


So, the choices are:

1) I delete ALL Archives and threads older than a month.

2) The Moderators and I delete all out of date or unneeded posts. This would be a LOT of work, and may not get us under the limit anyways without losing valuable content.

3) We get sufficient donations to support the new rate.


I can move the site to another cheaper host, but this will not be immediate, and I have no idea yet how to migrate the board without losing anything.


I can only think that we will have to pay the extra cost to keep things running here.

That said, and if you agree, please consider making a donation to the site. I really hate having to do this, but I don't see any other viable alternatives right now. Feel free to send in whatever you consider a fair contribution.

PayPal (www.paypal.com) would be the best and fastest approach (send to juan@2gnt.com). Also, when you sign up for an account you get a free $5 credit. If enough people do this, we might be ok for the next 3 months.

You can count on some money from me. I doubt we can get enough donations to cover $70 every month. I also doubt we can delete enough "unnecessary" posts to get us down to 25% of our present size. I say toss old posts. Keep them as far back as you can while still being under 100 mb. If a thread is really important, someone can make a FAQ about it. Just my opinion.

dam man, why would it be a problem to get donations? I know I'm new but I don't mind sending in some money as I could speak for some not all. This is a really useful site and losing the archives would suck. If everybody on this board could donate 10 bucks it might cover the expense for a while. Just my .02

I know we can get enough money for a few months, while the problem is still fresh in peoples minds. I'm just not sure we can get enough money EVERY month for YEARS. I would hate for Juan to get stuck footing the bill because of "good intentions". I may be wrong...I'm just speaking from my own experience of trying to get money out of people month after month. Maybe a bi-monthly reminder e-mail sent to all members asking for a donation would work (like PBS and their pledge drives).

I'd most definitely be willing to donate some money to keep the archives. The way I see it, poking around this board for the past year or so has saved me literally hundreds of dollars, especially through my problems with my leaky head gasket. Giving back 10 or 20 to help keep the board up and running is the least i can do in return. Also, I am a fourth year computer science major with alot of experience in web design. If you guys want my help in anyway with redesigning the site, or any other technical issue, just let me know.
