I was coming home late last nite and I hear a sucking(louder than normal) sound. It didnt sound like the normal CAI sound, so I was like "Hmm, maybe a vacuum line or something". Nope, not the case. When I get home my AEM bypass valve has broken and theres no telling what shit I've sucked up into my motor. Steve was telling me there was a recall on these and if anyone has any info on this, please let me know ASAP! I'm gonna post a few pics in a second.

Ya I know that there was a huge recall and it was destroying engines because it would suck a bunch of shit in. Check to make sure that it is all out of the intake mani and the pieces are gone. You would know if damage had been done already.

a bypass valve isnt dumb when you have a CAI and run through a puddle that swallows your filter, trust me i found that out quick, if i would have had it it would have been bye bye to my engine

The recall doesnt have to do with what youre breaking, it has to do with the filter element. If you look inside you see that little plastic thing, that wasnt there in previous bypass valves. I remember when I first got mine a while back i was like "wtf is this thing" and took it out. I called up AEM and asked em what its there for and how to install, and they said "KEEP THE PLASTIC THING IN THERE, it will keep you from sucking that filter into your engine." Hmmm...point taken. Shortly after i sold my CAI/by pass combo the guy i sold it to said his broke. So there must be something else causing the outer ring part to break. May get hot and/or brittle or something and snap.
And yea youd definitely know if you sucked up plastic parts into your engine. I dont even think they'd make it pass the valves to begin with. Not to mention the nasty noise you'd hear.
