#5493, "Double clutching...?"

I read a little on this board about it, then finally went to see F&F tonight (pitiful, yes) and they talked about it briefly in the movie. I tried it on the way home. Was in 2nd and first tried pushing the clutch all the way in and popping it, but that only chirped the tires. Tried it again later....went to red in 1st, then in second I pressed the clutch in till it held and let out quickly, pumping it a couple times and keeping the gas steady. It did the reving and kind of jolted when I did it. It SEEMED to go through the rpm's faster, but I can't be sure. Just a few questions though.

1) Am I doing it right?
2) Isn't it bad for the clutch?
3) How many times should I do it through a gear?

Double clutching IS and NEVER WILL BE something you do during a race. You can do it when you are downshifting in to a corner or if your car has BAD synchros then you have to shift this way. I have to do it EVERY SHIFT from 1 to 2. A double clutch is putting the clutch in, shifting to neutral, letting the clutch out while in Neutral, Rev the engine up to speed while putting the clutch in and shifting to the next gear and letting off the clutch when the gear engages. If the synchos are bad and you don't double clutch then you go from 1st gear to GGGGRRRRIIIIINNNNDDD!!!!!!!!!! which doesn't do good things for the tranny. That was a really dumb term for them to use in that movie. Everyone thinks it some race winning secret when it is nothing but a pain in the ass. I lose about 1 second and 1 to 1.5 car lengths because of my Fucked up tranny and double clutching. I can't wait till I order my new tranny and Clutch Masters Stage 3 clutch this coming week!!!

power shifting (when you don't let go off the gas pedal during up shifting) is not a very good thing to do very often.

LunarEclipse, no you did not fuck up anything, it's that your clutch is wearing out. power shifting will wear out your clutch quicker tho.
