whoo didily fuckin doo!

Car has been running like shit. I finally get a CEL. I thought it was my timing belt has skiped a tooth, but i checked it this morning and it was fine. So the cel is for cyl 1 misfire. Im like cool its ignition related. So i do the compression test to be sure. I this is the first compt test i have done on this motor. It came out 120 180 150 180. Cyl 1 was 70 until i put motor oil in it. The rest were with no oil in the cyls.

Question is, is this bad enuf to make my car drive like crap? Could the coil pack be bad? It has been slowly getting worse, and thier was never an incident that I can think of that would cause engine damage like this. Im running forged internals. errrr

I hope to get my block from VT this week and get it in over the weekend for the shootout. emoji

sounds like its the rings since you added oil to the combustion chamber and compression increased

You are running forged internals now with that compression? Or did i get that wrong? Could be cracked ring lands for stock pistons, or could be worn valve seats, so they are not sealing good...was the engine cold or warm? Hot engines will have quite a bit more compression. The oil test you did though sounds like broken ring lands on the pistons..esp if you are stock pistons still..

I say it should read that way, cause that's what the compression test shows. 120 on cyl 1 is a leakdown number. It shows that the rings at least have something to do with the problem, cause it went up.

Sorry, but yeah it's probably running like poop with less than half compression on cylinder one. Cyl 3 doesn't look the greatest either.

I assume that I saw you're block at VT the other day. They only had one 420A motor there and if yours is there then that must be it. Nick said that it would be the fastest turn-around yet. He said that it should only take them one week total to ship out. When I saw it, the block was all machined and sitting next to all of the parts. If I talk to them today, I'll see if they shipped it yet, but you should get it in time to install before the shootout if you work fairly fast.

Yeah.. You guys probably need to stop the caravan at my house to help me get this motor in! I have everything i need exept some arp head studs. I really dont want to use the old ones, i think they are the strech seal ones. So they are probably fuked. Yeah that motor has been there about 3 weeks now. Not bad. I talked to them yesterday, my #14 turbo cams are in and the block is done. they are waiting on pops to get the thing assembled. I hope i can get it ready for the shootout! emoji Any idea of a place that stocks the arp head studs for our motor!?

If i dont get the motor in for the shootout ill still be there riding in style! here is why! emoji

Call summit and order a set of studs for the dohc neon. They fit great (I use them). If they dont have them in stock, you can tell the guy on the phone to have them drop shipped. That way, ARP will send them directly to you and not to summit's distribution center. It will cost you 10 more bucks to do it, but it still winds up being cheaper than ordering directly from ARP and shipping is free.
