Just curious on your thoughts of puting in standard bore 8:x pistons rods and bearings. Without getting the block machined. I know it has been done before but what are your thoughts on the subject.

if the cylinder walls are perfect then it should be fine, maybe just hone it again at the very least, but IMO better do it right the first time and go with the .020 over, its worth it and might just save you from rebuilding again when the rings leak,etc..

Unless your block is pristine I wouldn't do it. If there is a sight ditortion to the roundess of the bore then it's only going to get worse and the rings won't seal for as long as they would have otherwise.

Yeah, what ^^they said. It's not really gonna save you any work because you'd still need to pull the engine and get the cylinders honed. You might as well have them bored over to be sure they will seal.

I agree with these guys too ^^^.
It may sound like a good idea, but when you're sitting there with a piston and rod in your hand (uh huhuhuhuh )you want to know those walls are true. TRUST ME. I have mine done and am nervous as hell about installing the rings right...

Got it.. no cutting corners here, i learned my lesson.
