#54402, "Can I use the stock fans with the fluidyne radiator?"

Well I think I might bite the bullet here and buy that monster, but can I use the stock fans? I don't have the cash to buy both right now so I'm hoping they would work. I called C&R and they would have to have my radiator to make one for me cause they don't make them for the 420a. I wanted to use them too cause they come with the fans. I may still go with a stock replacement if the fan thing won't work out though.

No.
The main fan will hit your piping as it leaves the turbo on it's way to the intercooler (assuming your piping is stock star stage 2 piping).
if you want to get fans, let me know and I'll show you what I got (FAL=~$200). Plenty of room w/ these.

heh well you can run it without the fans for a while I see some peeps do that if you don't got the money. Just don't run the car too hard. I'm sure that thing has mad cooling potential so the radiator with the thermostat might be able to do it.

I look at RWD cars and they have really shitty cooling systems, the fan is there only for support the cooling is mainly done by the radiator and regulated by the thermostat.

check out those jegs or summit catalogs they have a lotta electric fans. If your really desperate for a fan go grab a slim fan like those on hondas from the junkyard, its better than nothing I suppose.

Since I posted that ^, I've received and installed it. You have to make two small cutouts for the inlet and outlet hoses, but nothing that can't be done w/ a dremel or jig saw in a matter of 15 minutes. Then ignore the wiring diagrams they give you and splice your stock wiring to the supplied fan wiring. It's pretty simple.

Like Hades said above, I did run it for a while without fans and I never had a problem. It cools really well, but I was always leary. Better to be safe than sorry IMO.

Matt

Guess the star just takes up too much room.

Running without fans for a short time should be okay as long as you don't spend a lot oof time in stop and go traffic, you need the fans to draw air across the radiator while it's sitting.

SPAL are nice but too much money. The Permacool thin fans are rated at various CFM and cost like $130 a piece which is better than stock. Look into some options. Later
