#54370, "Any Hints on Head Gasket installation?" Jul-01-03 09:50 PM by Hamgumball
I got a blown head gasket. Does anybody have any helpful hints on changing one? I'll be working with a chiltons manual because my dsm cd manual isnt working right now.
Is it possible to pull the cylinder head with the intake? What is the least amount of parts to buy to just replace the headgasket? Just the head gasket? Or is a tensioner and water pump a neccessity? Can I just replace the Head Gasket or must I buy a head gasket set?

How many miles?
Definately replace the cam seals. Valve cover gasket could be reused, depends on condition. If you are getting up there in mileage, don't be surprised if the gaskets leak if you re-use them. I would replace exhaust gaskets, the new exhaust manifold gasket is MLS and seals very well, only like $10 too. If you can undo the fuel line from the fuel rail, you don't have to remove any intake manifold components.
I feel better taking it all off, I'm paranoid about uneven weight when torqueing down the head. But other have left them on and had no problems.
