I think it should work if you get a 1996 Talon. Any other year and it may not work so easily.

It's from a 1995 Talon NON-TURBO.

WILL IT"S ATX Tranny fit on my my Eclipse car PERFECTLY?
I want a just SWAP OUT AND IN thing.. I really do'nt want to deal with any more mod or stuff like that.
Coz I have to get it to run ASAP.

Thanks guys.
Please tell me what's up, so I can decide if I want it or not ok!

We pulled that auto out of that 95 ESi and then we pulled the MTX out of my 97. The mounts seemed to be in the same exact place and the flex plate bolted up in the same fashion too. I would say that's about as close as you can get. I can't vouch for the locations of the linkages, but there's not much room to radically change things in there. If someone could post some pics of a 96 auto tranny, I can take the same pics of this one to compare for you. (Unless they're taken in the car, since this one's out) emoji

REMEMBER: This car had fried ECUs from some dumb fuck trying to bypass them to skate through emissions here and we have never seen it drive. All we know is it *looks* okay and that it hadn't been driven since late 2000.

If you were in his place - what would you do? Let's get this guy back on the road again soon! emoji

Thanks.

ALso, waht I can tell from getting a used Tranny to see if it's in good condition or not??

Any input is cool!

It's the same trans. it'll bolt up the exact same way. Only difference would be the harness plugs, which changed in either 96 or 97. Check first, before you buy the replacement trans.

Don't panic. You're not going to fall over dead if you don't get the answer you're looking for in a few hours.

THanks...so All that could be different is the plugs?
But the tranny is from a 95 Talon..and my car is 96 Eclipse.
So they should be the same right?

Now, my BIGGEST concern is about IF THE TRANNY is in condition or not.
How can I tell?
What should I check or test before I get it?
Thanks.

I'm not sure if there is anything you can do to check the transmission short of tearing it apart, but if you were to go through all that then you may as well do it to the tranny you have. If you're comfortable buying a used tranny and you're comfortable with how many miles are on it then just get it and install it.

I know you're probably strapped for cash after that rebuild, but I would not suggest buying a used automatic. I've heard and seen too many bad things with the used ones. My best friend has driven automatics his whole life and has had nothing but very early problems whe he went with a used replacement. He won't even have them rebuilt OR buy rebuilt ones - cause they just don't last as long as the new ones. One time I installed a used auto transmission into my brother-in-law's Corolla. It lasted 5 miles. What I'm trying to say here is that there is no way to gaurantee how long a used automatic will last. If you have to get a used one, try to get one with as few miles on it as possible. Also, if you can, try to get one from a place that'll give you another if it breaks within a certain number of miles or within a certain amount of time - like 3k/3mo or something like that.

Do you have any Idea of what is wrong w/ the one you have. I know from the engine swap post you thought you bent some thing the t.c. but did you evr pull it and see? could you even get it out? You may be better off fixing what you have.

The only thing I can say about getting a used trans is can you trust the person you buy it from. Any thing man made can break when stressed so find a shop or parts dealer w/ a good back ground and return policy IF some thing is wrong.

From the trouble you had w/ the engine swap you should try to find some one w/ some experians to help. Good luck ma emoji

Remember what i said about NOT PANICING?

Do you even have any idea what's wrong with the one you have? It may be easily fixable.

Maybe you need to learn how to service/repair the A604 automatic transaxle and fix it yourself emoji

Otherwise.. Who really cares what someone's friend thinks of used car parts? I happen to think that someone's friend is a choad who's opinion is suddenly invalidated by my apathy emoji

If you buy a used auto transd (or any used parts) most salvage yards offer a 30 to 90 day warranty against breakage or failure. of course, don't just expect to get it and throw it in - drain the fluid, see what it looks like, drop the pan, clean it out. look for obvious signs of wear, such as metal in the trans pan. If anything looks out of the ordinary, TAKE IT BACK! Make sure it has new, fresh fluid in it before you install it. Make sure it has the right harness plugs for your model year. After you've given it a good cleaning and put new fluid in it, and made sure that everything looks okay, take a deep breath, maybe a xanax, then install the thing. It'll be okay, i promise.

^^^ do what he said. I have a used tranny in my car...you wont like this...and it blew up. Warranty void because the stupid shop installed it knowing their was metal in the pan. RETARDS Short story shorter we took it to another place. A tranny specialist rather than a mechanc. (What we shoulda done to begin with) They did a soft overhaul on it and it runs like a dream now. Well...at first. The first time they rebuilt it, I was driving back to my house down I65 in TN and it bangs into 2nd gear out of no where. I could feel the sublte twitches then BAM.

The shop couldnt figure it out til one old man that works there said "Its the differential". The retaining pin for the spider gear pin snaps in half causing the much larger pin to shift inside the spider gears. So they put the supplemental piece from Chrysler on there and its worked fine ever since.

So. Moral of the story. When you get your tranny do what ^^^ said and check for metal in the pan. Is the fluid burnt? How many miles? If you see signs of all that id go ahead and do a soft overhaul for good measure if youve got the cash.

Joseph

PS - seriously though, whats wrong with yours that you need a totally new tranny?

Ok guys...
The reason I want a new tranny, is because I really don't konw how to fix a tranny.
Second, as soem of you said, I spent ALOT on rebuilt engine already, it's like NEW, but car won't move without a working Tranny (which I broke)

So anyway, the sign tells me it's fucked up becasue,
The first 5 minutes of breakin, teh tranny has ALOT of white smelly smoke comes out, second, NO GEAR makes it out of Neutral feeling.
Third, it has CONTINUES gear grinding sound.... Trick Trick..

So, I really don't want to spend another 6 weeks on it to make it works or TONS of money, I will prefer to just go for a used Tranny.

But Is that good?

OK, please give me some insight on the follow two questions ok!THX.

1) To check used Tranny, drop the oil pan and check oil for black or metal. So so, then teh Tranny is BAD?

2) How do I fill the Tranny with fluid? (for ATX) I never konw. I can't find a screw at the bottom of the oil pan to drail fluid, and I can't find a hole on the Tranny to refill it. (My MTX eclipse has a screw at the bottom... so what should I do???)

THanks guys...

No drain plugs on the A604. And even if there were, you wouldnt get all the fluid out simply pulling that plug. You've got a Torque Converter holding a bunch of that fluid. The only efficient way, imo, to get rid of the old fluid completely is to hook it up to a flush machine. We've got one at work that works wonders for trannys.

There really isnt any right way to weigh consequences and positives for getting a used tranny or not. It's all about luck. you might get lucky and get a good tranny. Or you might be unlucky and get a shitty tranny. What region of the States did you get your tranny from? Up north? Down South? Mid States? That can determine where its been sitting and what climate is been sitting in.

North = salty roads/ice.

Mid states = a mix of ice and salt.

South = salt water, salty air, hotter climate.

All those will factor into the condition of the used tranny. Mine came from Michigan and it was obvious.

Good Luck anyway. I still say fix yours.

If I were you, I would call some local tranny shops (if a ghey sounding dood answers, HANG UP - wrong kind of tranny) ans see what they would quote you to inspect the tranny. You take it in, they check it out, tell you what's wrong (if at all) and then you post back here to see if it's something you can do. If not, save yourself another panic attack and work out a payment plan with them if they'll have it...

Good luck to you mang. You sure could use it.
