#54016, "Apex'i S-AFC ECU Hookup HELP!!!!"

I bought this unit about 2 months ago waiting for a shop to have a few hours to hook it up for me. Finally I got it in yesterday, after 3 hours of the dude fiddleing with it, he determined that my ECU harness is not what the installation book displays. The book displays 4 harnesses with 2 rows of pins, mine is 2 harnesses with 4 rows of pins.

Has anyone else had this problem? Anyone please get back to me to help/suggestions. I've looked everywhere for help. The MODS page here has 2 outdated links for installion help, so that sucks. Any help for a chick in distress would be teriffic!!!! emoji

The instructions you got were probaly for a 4G63, I don't think Apex'i makes a install for us yet. There's a great write-up on the main page about hooking up and tuning the AFC, check it out, most people on here have hooked there's up with that, including me emoji

yup apexi only makes write up for 4g63.. some of you 420a people get CEL..dunno if that has to do with you being 420a but hardly any 4g63s get CEL with S-AFC. and I heard 50% of 420as do. You need to print out an instruction manual and take it to the shop. The instructions that are online from Apexi and that come with the AFC are for a 4g63. Our harness is way different from yours.

CEL means Check Engine Light, right?
My light is currently on right now, which by the way is my o2 sensor, anyone have an idea why? Just started the begining of the month, nothing extra has been modified, engine wise.
The SFAC is hopefully going in tomarrow, I'll be asking some more ????'s, so watch out!!!
C'mon now, help a girl out. emoji

I got the thing hooked up on Thursday, I had 2 days off, so I decided to take the days and spend them with the family since I'm never home. All of a sudden on Sunday, I go to start up my car and it doesnt!!! I start it, and it revs up to 1000 and stalls, I did it again and stalled. So I started it and kept on the gas and oh my god, it sounded like trash!! emoji

Making a long story short, I had OBD2 diagnostic computer hooked up by a friend, and it came up with my O2 sensor and MAP something and 'running lean'. Does anyone have an idea what is wrong with it? Any help to my baby feel better will make me feel better. emoji

ur 02 sensor being bad wont do anything but give you shitty gas mileage...nah, it sounds like you might have hooked something up wrong. Maybe you should try and reset ur ECU...just unhook the battery for a lil while and put it back on.

just like you said. the afc isn't plugged up but all the wires are still connected. the afc is controlling parts of the car. so if it is removed, those parts of the car will not work right. i did the samething when my car was at the bodyshop. i took out the afc in fear of it being stolen. once i put it in, car was fine. do that, i know that's the problem.

I have come to the conclusion that this thing needs to be tuned for my var to run correctly. No one in my area knows how to do this. The guy that installed it, knows only that- how to install them, not tune them.

If anyone can help me out, it would be so appricated. Remember that I am a girl and I dont know know much about engines, but I do know a little. If anyone can explain how I can get my car to at least stop stalling and idling at 500, that would be good for now.

I've got a 98 GS model with an exhaust, and a cheap intake, nothing else done to the engine. any help on the throttle, air percents, fuel ratios, and those graphs that would help me tune it myself would be great. Thanks guys for your help in advance. emoji

I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't think that your car would run with the controller unplugged. It's because of the MAP loop. You cut the MAP wire right - and hooked the sensor end to one line and the ECU end to the other. If you did the wiring right then I don't think the car will run unless you plug the controller in. Plug it in and see if it runs.

i tried 7 in and 7 out for a while with some success. 6 in and 6 out works too, but i find that i get the most accurate pressure readings and smoothest operation with 5 in and 5 out. i guess it all depends on the car, though.

I honestly dont know what you guys mean by 7 in and 7 out, ect... I assume its one of the 3 sensor reading things that can go up 10 I think.... Which one do I set for 7/6/5 in and out. Right now 2 of them say 1 in 1 out, the other says 0 in 0 out, and there's Karmen. I dont know! I'm CONFUSED and I dont know what I'm doing - Someone pleeease help me out before I blow up my poor engine.....

I have a car show to go on Friday thats about 100 miles from here and I want to compete in SPL, so the car needs to be idling normally. PLEASE HELP ME OUT!!

The only one you have to worry about is the PRESSURE one. Set it at 7 in and 7 out and then press next. Then back out of that and leave the sensor part alone.

I set the pressue gauge to 5 in and 5 out, the car seems to do fine like that. I also followed the direction on http://www.avenger.kicks-ass.net/safc.htm on how to tune the hi throttle, and low throttle points. The car seems to be just the way it was before I even put the controller in.

I was asked something today that I really dont know the answer to. If anyone has input or a good reply, please post.
"What is the reason/point behind haveing one of these? What purpose does it serve?"
And dont say to control the fuel to air ratio. Honestly, I have forgotten why I have it, aside from looks, which is what I'm going for, I don't know why I went through all the trouble. Anyone perseption would be great.

the afc will not do a damn thing for your car unless you get it tuned. it will simply display all the read outs of the sensors it's plugged into. but in order to get gains out of it you need to get it dyno tuned.
