Well, that's what the guy at the machine shop told me about raising the compression in my sweet little 420A. I have been reading here for a couple months now so I KNOW I know better, but this is my first experience with a specialist telling me he doesn't advise what I'm doing and it's kind of unerving.

I need some reassurance from my bros who've been there and done this.
Here's what I've got cooking:

*10.5:1CR with Eagle ESP H rods, bored .20 over, & new Clevite's all around
*AFX UDP
*port&polish OE TB
*Pacesetter 4-2-1 with 2.5"IDx27" Cherry bomb
*all the required bits that go along with this stuff

I know we run rich and if the ECU detects knock, it can retard to some extent, but assuming I keep her on 91 octane or better, do I really need anything else to be safe? I'd like to get an ignition upgrade here pretty soon afterwards like the Howell coil, but will I be okay here guys?

I'm hoping my good buddy John will hook me up with his PocketLOGGER for a couple days after we get her up and running, so I'l be able to monitor things closer than normal.

Tips? Concerns? TIA!!

Find a new machine shop IMO. Hell, Celicas run 11:1 bone stock!

Yeah. I also told him I have access to a datalogger and am not worried about ping. He seemed to be somewhat curious about how this turns out. I just would like to make sure I'm not missing anything critical here. Am I? TIA!

yea i'd find a new shop, my buddy has a 2000 civic si, he has 12.1 compression...so obviously your guy don't know jack!

I don't think this guy has a handle on modern fuel injection and engine management. Which doesn't mean he doesn't know his machine equipment like the back of his hand, but i would stil call around.

No. You can run 10.5:1 compression with a stock ignition system... hell, you can run damn near anything on a stock ignition system.

I wouldn't start to worry about having to pull any timing until you get over like 11.5:1, unless you have the AFX computer then I would keep a closer eye on it. 10.5:1, no worries.

where do you live? This guy needs some updated info. Depending on your local I would look at Koffel's Place to do it. They have a shop in Waldlake MI and Huron Oh. There specialty is mopar engines and they live to go fast. They built my 2.2 turbo2 motor for me. They also did work on a guys neon head for scca racing. I would recomend them to any one. Good luck

DR, don't forget about VT engines in lansing, mi. I will be picking up my block from them soon. Its got 8.8:1 cause im turboed. But they really know thier shit. they build 550 hp mercury merauders(sp). Sick shit. But i hear Koffel's is good too. when it comes to machine shops michigan has some of the best.

dont sweat it honda hater i wouldn't sell the 10.5:1 kits if it was gonna blow up your motor on the street =)

in the old days 10.5:1 is pushing it on leaded gas to some peoples comcern...

nowadays 12.5:1 on these cars can be run ons tock ignition i recomend an ignition box at that point though...
