#53345, "To 2.4L swap, or not to swap..."

Alright, I've been thinking about having a rebuilt 2.4L swapped into my Talon, but now I'm starting to rethink it. This may sound stupid, but can someone break down the pros and cons? I wanna try and make my final decision this week so I can decide what I wanna do.

Thanks,
Corey

Do you know the whole process? It's not easy. I can't even lay it out to you myself, because there's alot that has to be done.

I'm talking to ARD about the actual work, so I'm not too worried about the actual process of swapping the engine. I'm looking more for a comparison of the 2.0L to the 2.4L, the best and worst of each engine.

the only probl3ems so far ahve been in the neon world where people didn't put new tensioners on and also reusging timing belts...

the motor swap when u compare to a honda swaps is very easy...

i can lay it out for ya if u wanna talk about it hit me up on aim or the phone after 9:00 and ill lay it out for ya too much typing to layout something thats been done by me enough times on the board..

the 2.4 is 22% more displacement, a stronger block due to the larger bed plate.

the bad parts of the 2.4 are:
no ARP main bolts.. available yet..
head studs are not the same as the 2.0 but they are available ...

the 2.4 needs a new motor mount
dip stick needs re routing,
cam magnet roation 90*
injector swap
plug wire swapping
down pipe and oil pan
and the hood fitament problem...

aside from the work involved it has no mechanical bad parts if built properly
the water pump and timing belt could be a fun project due to less space...

the parts for srt4 internals are cheap the forged units are better but still avaliable (soon to have more choices brought to you by yours truely)

the cranks are bigger a stronger..

what is there bad about the motor work to put it in...

Bill

You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick any two.

If you want it cheap and fast, it's not going to be good.
If you want it cheap and good, it's not going to be fast.
If you want it good and fast, it's not going to be cheap.

lol, u must be refering to the 4g63.... i hope. theres some fabing here and there yea.

turbodave from neons.org dynoed at 347whp, with no cams, on 15psi's. look at it this way, you have 22% more displacement, any number youll make with a 2.0 will be 22% more of that.

as for install, the only real answer you will get is from some of us that have actually done the swap, not from what is heard.

theres really no best and worst out of neither, only thing your gonna be running different is the block, i guess its kinda how the v-8 boys say it,

"Theres no replacement, for displacement"
