I took my needles of a year ago when i put on my indiglo gauges and was wondering how i can get the rpm gauge needle exactly where it should go.

Im sure theres a better way, but the only way that I can think of off hand is to have the car at idle, and put the rpm needle on so that it points somewhere around 800(thats what my car idles at, but use whatever your car used to idle at)

just a sugesstion to get it approximately where its supposed to be. Only other idea is dealer maybe?

thats what i tried to do but when i puched it yesterday the revlimter hit around 6800 and it not suppost till 7100.I put the needle around 800 but if i drop it 300 so it would reach 7100 until the revlimter hit it would be idle at 500 rpms.

what i would do is buy a scan tool. i have one at my job for about 130 bucks. thier good to have too. the tool will tell you exactly what rpm you are at. to the tee. and then just rebember a certine speed with a certin RPM and your all set.

do you have 8K or 9K gauges??

8k why?

Very Important ** how long did u let ur car idle before u put on the needle???** we have that higher rpm idle until the car reaches full idle temp.. make sure u give ur car PLENTY of warm up time before putting the needles back on. I did the intelliglow needle kit and the reverse indiglo's at the same time.. i still think my speedo is off but my rpms are right on! sux though my gas needle doesn't work under quater of a tank oh well i will get the incentive to fix it one day haha... until then i just use my trip odometer.

The reason I ask is that stock we have a 9K tach on a 5-speed and an 8K on an auto from what I understand. This means that with an 8K tach on a 5 speed the revs will never be perfect. You may set it and it will be correct at idle but by the time you hit 7K it could be off by 500-1000 rpms. This is all just from what I have read not from actual experience so take this with a grain of salt but this could easily be your problem. I am also assuming you have a 5-speed.

The answer:

Remove your gauges. Let the rpm needle come to rest on the 'tab' at 0 rpms. Then gently lift the needle over the tab so it can point straight down. If your needle doesn't point straight down, remove the needle wait 5 seconds, then gently place the needle on making sure that it points straight down. Then turn it back and lift it over the tab, where it should be when the car is off. It should be correct now.

Yeah, 800rpms is 'normal' 4 our cars... but it can B lower. Never changed my gauges or anything: But after I did my timing belt, my car idles alot lower @ ~500rpms. It's reading right since U can tell by the way the car is running/sounds.

yeah mine idles at 600 rpm. If the indiglo gagues dont match up in measurement than the gague will be wrong. take the old gague come and match it up, you will probably find the readings on them are different. thats why its wrong.
