OK, I have my car back. The old engine had hydrolock and the insurance company vouched to have a semi-brand new engine put in. Well, I got a 98 Sebring engine with 12,000 miles on it. Perfect compression everything looks great.

The engine got dropped in this week and I got the car back this past Friday, but there are some problems.

I belive that its the O2 sensor and thermostat specifically. But I'm not 100% sure.

Problem #1:
The car is running rich, rich as hell. I have a noticable amout of black smoke coming out of the exhaust. Here's the weird thing. The car is throwing a code that says system to lean. Possible O2 sensor problem or possibly an injector is not spraying correctly. Ok, I thought, the ECU is over compensating for the lean code and is over hauling the other injectors dumping a shit load of gas. But the amout of black smoke is rediculos. Also at idle you can smell the unbured full exiting the exhaust.

Problem #2:
I was driving the car around yesterday, not really getting on it for fear that if the car was, by some strange reason, not getting enough fuel I didn't want encourage detination on the new engine. My water temp gauge, the stock one in the gauge bezel, flucuates. It rises to the middle and drops off to below "C". So I assume the thermostat is stuck open or if nothing else, is not functioning correctly.

There are a lot of other little problems as well, but these are the two I am concerned about cause they really affect my daily driving. I am going through gas like marathon runner goes through water. I had a half tank on Friday and I have put a total of 40 miles on the car since I got it back. My gas light is on today. The car is running WAY, WAY to rich.

So, if you guys got any ideas I would love to hear them. I'm going to take it back to the shop tomorrow. I don't want to buy a S-AFC or anything like that I want the problem corrected to stock specifications since I am looking to get rid of the car in a couple of months. Thanks in advance for the replies.

you should take it back and tell them that they messed it up. emoji they should make your car at least run correctly.
