and found that the previous owner of this bottom end had used stock bearings :mad: I was told there were clevite 77 bearings in it:wary

anywho, i melted one bearing completely, and a second one was scored and looked like it was about to go if it hadnt already...

The bearings were all oem rod bearings...clevite bearings say clevite on them, these just had part numbers

So i put the new clevite bearings in, and so far so good.

whats a usual break-in period for new rod bearings?

I do belive bearings are get up and go break in is usally just the piston rings. I still think u should kick rays ass (PureRage)( i figured u didn't want to put his name but he has screwed tomany people so far). Did u get ahold of him with that number i gave you.

There really is nothing wrong with Mopar bearings. They are great quality, and some(I know Blackdog Motorsports), even recomend them when building a engine. There is really no required break-in on bearings, since technically, there is no metal-to-metal contact(they ride on a thin layer of oil). I used all genuine Mopar bearings in my motor, and its just fine.

Agreed, Mopar bearings are of equal quality to Clevitte 77 bearings. Maybe he got brand X bearings from autozone or something. It could also be that the bearings were not causing the problem (i.e. blocked oil passage or contaminated oil).

first ive heard that...everyone else i talked to told me oem bearings were to soft.

actually i told someone i had stock bearings, and before i told him what happened, he said "no! theyre to soft, they'll come out the sides." which is exactly what happened, the bearing melted out the side of the rod cap. when someone can describe what happened to my bearing before i tell them what happened, knowing only they were stock bearings, then stock bearings arent all that obviously.



regardless, i dont care if stock bearings are the best bearings ever built...i was told their was clevite 77 bearings in the motor, its what should have been in the motor. If i was told their was stock bearings, i would have still bought the damn motor and i wouldnt be pissed for being lied to.
