when i took mine off i drained out as much fluild as i could but it was a bitch for about a week. I then added a lsd to my tranny and it made it alot easier to drive. I can drive and turn one handed now real easy.

The only consequences to having an empty rack is accelerated wear (slightly) and stronger arms.
Now, being a guy, you probably already have one strong arm. Think of this as a way to even things up a bit.

The extra wear on the rack and pinion would be minimal, and I wouldn't worry about it. I will probably be rollin' with no pump for a while.

So wait, if you don't have the belt you have to drain your unit (hehehehe). Seriously, I threw my belt and I could barely steer that bitch when parking it. If you drain it will you be able to turn easier?

The reason it is initially so hard to turn is due to the fact that you're manually having to displace fluid from the rack and pinion. Once you drive it or about a week it gets easier because you've already pushed most of it that you can back into the reserviour.
