Well, I just bought my car about three weeks ago and I am wanting to do the 60k mile tune up. My engine does have about 88,500 miles on it and there is no proof that the service has been done. Better safe then sorry I would rather fork over the money and know that it has been done rather then guessing and bending valves. I was curious about how much does this cost. . . dealer or local shop or both. I called Mitsu and they said it all depends, the woman was a real beeyatch about it. I don't know of any local shops of hand but I know they are out there. I read somewhere that the cost for the parts is going to be in the neighborhood of 200-250 dollars. Any advice/prices are greatly appreciated!

I think the local Mitsu was charging me like a $1,600 for everything. I remember close to 2 grand. I just went to one of those local mechanics. Still got raped tho. Total was like almost a grand too. Like 900 with change. Still, at least its not $1600 like what Mitsu quoted me. And with Satan being the way it is, they'll prolly charge extra, like "oh, this needs replacing" and what not.

First off, you got ripped off... sorry man. Anyone who charges you over 800 dollars is 100% completely ripping you off. That includes replacing your timing belt, your tensioner, your tensioner and idler pullies, your water pump and your cam seals with OEM parts. For just a standard timing belt change (assuming everything else is in spec), you shouldn't pay over 500 period.

Good deal, apparently I will be saving a few paychecks. Is there a way to tell if the belt has been changed? Maybe pulling off the cover a little where the top screw is? TIA
