#52223, "whoops---racing == DUMB Belts gone..."

hey all,

listen, I'm kinda in a jam here: I was screwing around with a buddy of mine (i.e. racing). He has an old GM...and I mean OLD, and he put a new motor in it, so we were driving around ...anyways,we raced, I won, and I revved up to about 5k to screw with him in neutral...I heard I a "clank" and then my car ran over somethign small. At first, I thought she blew and my heart sank. Followign the "clank", the dash lights dimmed (coulndt' tell HL--on a well lit street) and the battery light came on. THe idle also surged to 2k. The CEL is permanently on from the 60mm TB.

Checked it when I got home and the alternator belt was gone, and another belt coming from the same general location was frayed...it goes towards the front of the car on the passenger side on the top of the engine bay right next to the valve cover. I think this is my power steering belt. Anyways,

do y'all think it is the alternator belt (since its gone), and if so,
a) does this mean i could possibly be engine trouble free, minus the alternator?

b) is the alternator itself cashed now?

c) how hard/how much would it cost to get the Alternator and PS belts replaced?

Is there anything else I should check before I do the belts?

thanks, I really appreciate the help!

matt

yup you probably heated up the belts a lil to much and they expanded and there went those belts. there shouldnt be any damage unless the belt hit a line or something your alternator should still be good you just go to a parts store and bench check it if your worried

its pretty simple to put the belts on just gotta have small hands to get in those crevacies anyways theres just an adjustment pully(tensioner) for each of the belts loosen it and put the belt over and tighten and you should be good. this happened to me just the other week so i know how you feel. didnt take me more then an hour to do and 3/4 of the time i was walking to the parts store to get the belts emoji good luck

I don't notice a UDP in your mods. That is usually when the belts start to sling like rubber bands. I have gone thru that 3 times in a year, 6500rpm racing emoji So just get the belts and install them you should be fine. You might want to also recharge your battery.
