More air, that is.
It's official, with the help of about 3 other guys at autozone, they got my intake installed. Mitsubishi really put the battery in a tight spot, didn't they? I basically have two questions.
First, there aren't any mounting holes in there, nor are there any brackets on the tube itself. I'm wondering what to do with these two brackets that came in the box. One's an L shape with a bolt hole in it, the other's about 6" long with two holes on one end and one on the other. I lack a digital camera, so that's the best I can do without ASCII art.
Secondly, is it now normal for the thing to sound like I just punched the throttle in a four barrel, and a bit of engine vibration? My car definately hauls more, though.

What kind of intake are you getting from auto zone? The aem intake comes with the bracket attached. I know what you are saying about the sound, I love it emoji

Well, for the record, it was only one guy that actually installed the intake, two buddies were cheering him on

I bought an (~el cheapo - $90) AIC intake, it's fitting pretty damn snug against the battery. Snug as in it didn't fit unless we pulled the battery out first, then wedged the battery bracket back in. The brackets that came with the intake don't seem to fit anywhere at all... almost as if they're too short or something, there's no place for them to wrap around, unless they're designed to keep the thing away from the wiring harness on the valve cover.

I guess my question would be is where the brackets are located on an AEM intake, and where they'd line up.

next excessive use of money... ~$800 for enkeis and 16" wheels.

that battery post put a nice little hole in mine -- and will wear a hole right through yours...

The reason why you don't buy el-cheapo is cause of fitment.

On another note though -- i got an el-cheapo that is an exact replica of the AEM so I am good to go.

My recommendation is to take out the battery post -- and use nylon tied downs -- its what i am using right now.

Good luck.

hmm, good point... I'll go snag the rest of the tube from the breather hose and wrap the post.

I see this now. plus, it was a spur-of-the-moment deal, I walked in, they had the part.

sounds exactly like my old cai i bought off ebay. My blue powder coating began to rub off due to the battery. I have no tie down so I never had that problem, but after a month or 2 it was covered in very fine black dust...wth. Yup from the rubbing of the balck battery cover.

As for the bracket. I take it that the filter goes to the bottom, in front of your tire. Well not right in fron but next to the frame right? and filter is the cone type being held on by a metal ring? well bend the metal into an j shape, slip it in the ring, then the ring onto the filter and then the filter on the tube, that way its ready to go. No find a hole, or I used my horn bolt and mounting point and bolt it on to there. It supports the intake from the bottom and holds on to the filter should it ever decide to slip off.

hope you understood that.
