#51002, "Me Vs. Flooded Road"

Last Thursday I was driving home and Nicholasville Road, one of the main street here in Lexington, was flooded. I couldn't see it. It was raining HARD, REAL HARD. I hit the water at about 35 to 40 mph. I didn't even make it half way through. She died right in the middle of what appeared to be a lake. It was a good 4-5 inches deep. When I hit the water it ripped my Iceman in half, where the cold air extension meets the short ram to TB, at the bend.

Got the car got towed on Saturday and just got off the phone with the shop as today was the first day they got to look at it.

Bad News:
Removed the spark plugs...water in the engine, intake mani...hell, there's water everywhere.
The car will start now but the engine is making all kinds of noise.
No idea if I have craked pistions or rings or both yet, but it definetly dosen't look good at this point.

Good News:
Called the insurance comapny. This type of damage falls under catastrophy insurance and will be completely covered with no deductable. Sweet! Insurance even paid for the car to be towed.

I dunno what I'm gonna do exactly. Even though insurance is gonna cover it and I might be able to uprade to a stroked engine.....this still fucking sucks. Stranded with no car for a long while.

Hydrolock is evil and nasty. You're going to have to rebuild her, so if you can swing the difference go with the stroker. See what the insurance check will come out to, and go from there.

Good luck.

Hydrolocked my last car....that sucks. Check with your insurance company to see if they cover it. Progressive covers water damage and they paid for my engine rebuild(bent rod and cracked piston..$1700). Good luck.

This is my first experience with hydrolock and I don't like it at all emoji

Got an update on the car.

Its acutally running but its idleing anywhere from 4000-4800 RPM's.
When the gas is stepped on the idle drops to about 800-900RMP's, and the car coughs and dies.

Its throwing codes left and right but the shop does not have the scan tool to check the code. I was going to do the key dance this afternoon to see if I can get the numbers, but I think he is going to try to drive it to the local Mitsubishi place and get the codes checked.

The mechanic said the engine has pumped over 2 gallons of water out thus far! The oil filter had mud in it when he removed it, and the oil removed looked like a paste. Man....its a mess emoji

He thinks my internals are actually ok, but he's not sure yet. He thinks my computer if fried, but I dunno if I agree with him. The head is making noise as well. Any ideas?

Well, that was the original plan but its a long story. Short version is basically that AAA is a bunch of dumbass rednecks. I also did not know that insurance would cover it until after I got it towed soooo...

hmm it maybe fine still. if you say it starts. I would let it dry out for a bit then do a compression test. Then you'll know if its ok. I would change your oil also, might be some water floating around in there. If it were that flooded I would just take the whole intake out and run from the TB or something emoji ahh the joys of having a MAP sensored car.

Hades: Yeah, the mechanic changed the oil out like 3 times already. After yesterday's work on the car he claims my internals are fine and that the car idles so high because I may have fried a couple of the sensors. Which sensor or sensors he still doesn't know.

Justin99RS: Yup.

dfresh: Yes, I am in Lexington, KY. Sounds like you got off easy. Looks like I may get easy as well. CEL was for the TPS sensor. The sensor is on its way and may possibly be installed today. Everything else appears to be in ok condition. The idle is still off the charts so hopefully this will fix it. If the RPM's at idle come down I think it will be fine. The idle is not lumpy, just really really high. We'll see what happens today or tomorrow.

Justin99RS: Yeah man, I remember you. I liked the board but you couldn't really get any good tech info over there. It does kinda suck that they shut down though... Good to see you over here man.

Insuracne adjuster came out Saturday to look at the car. The car was running but the mechanic was not 100% sure how long it would last. Insurance adjuster approved me for a new engine. So she'll be back on the road in a week or so bascially brand new. Kinda excited now emoji

Go to pick up the rental tomorrow as well. I'll get picks of it up.

Let me know if you need help w/ anything.

You getting rid of the car? It sounded like it a few weeks ago from some of your posts, but couldn't tell. Anyways...if you get to keep the old engine, let me know. I might have some deals for you.

Yeah Matt, I am getting rid of the car in a few months. Should be gone by July or August. But it will be fun until then with a new engine emoji

About the engine, I stopped by the shop today and it looks like they are going to use the old engine as a trade-in on the new one. I told them if they didn't, that I wanted it. So, we'll see I guess. You got first dibs on any parts you want if I get it emoji

Edit:
Thought I might get an exciting rental car but all I ended up with was a 97 V6 Grand Am. Its fun though, torque out the wazzoo compared to my car.

Hey guys... think i just joined that list last night... just a question did you guys take your intakes off before the insurance adjuster came out to the shop??

I called my insurance... no such luck as no deductible, but it will be covered under my comprehensive -- $500 deductible is what I got.

Thanks for the info.
