my car has a nasty bog when i give it gas. it hesitates and makes a low pitched popping noise. it seems to do it MUCH less when i have a full tank. as the fuel in my tank decreases the hesitation and popping sound increase.
A local shop looked at it and said from the sound of it and the description, it sounds like its a fuel pump going bad.

fuel filter $6, about an hour (if the bolts are tough) and almost always neglected. I put 140K on the original filter with no pump problems. So it was pushing gas through who knows HOW much crap and still worked fine. For $6, I'd get a filter.

i'm definately going to change the filter, but i think it's the pump because whenever i start my car for the first time, it bogs and immediately stalls. i always have to start the car a second time.
sounds like the pump right? not building enough pressure at first.

well if your pump is trying to put pressure through a bad filter then you'd have to let it run for awhile before you take off. That's why it dies, that's what happened to me in my old Geo Tracker.
