#5069, "PT Cruiser motor-Neon Head questions"

Does anyone know anything about the bottom end off a PT Cruiser? If our motors are as close as I hope they are, I think the bottom end off a PT Cruiser would make for one very nice OEM 2.4L stroke.
I was also wondering about the Neon head. What makes their heads flow in the reverse direction? Is it just the cams that make the differance. Any comment would be greatly appreciated.

This has been considered before. Try searching the archives to see some of the research that was done on it.

What it comes down to, from what i remember, is that the 2.4L block is too different from the 2.0L block to have a straight bottom end swap to stroke the 2.0. If it were to be done, it would have to be with a 2.4L block and bottom end and possibly a 2.0 head ported out with oversized valves to make up for the extra displacement. That is, if you can get the taller 2.4L block to fit under the hood with the 2.0 or 2.4L head. It was also considered that having a stroker crank made specifically for the 2.0L block would be a better idea, but that would limit the displacement increase to 2.3L at the most.

Skrilla, this is your baby, so correct me if i'm wrong on any of this stuff, as well as give an update on the status of this project, if it is still in the works.. i'd love to hear how it's going.

There's also the matter of turning it in reverse like in the neon so that the crank ect is on the right side of the car. You'll have to have the backwords engine orientation to use the block (if you could turn the head around either way you wouldn't have to but you cant). That alone is reason enough to look another route (like a just stroking the 2L).

Since I cant use photopoint IMAGINE THIS:

...except that the cams are rotated and the intake and exhaust ports are on diffrent sides. It can work though.

Dark O got a lot correct. The 2.4L block is a hair over 1" taller than the 2L block. We can use our head on top of the 2.4L block but you will also have to do some side motor changes(suc as welding) the cylinder head and PCM also control the way the engine creates power. The stock 2.4L engine is a low revver(redlining at 6200 and fuel cut at 6450). It also equiped with balance shafts. The engine can be made to rev to 7500 rpms but the shafts must be removed and the crank should be knifedged. that along with a 20 over blopck hone for pistons and you would be running a 2.5L 4 cylinder(2429cc plus ~50cc from honing). The net effect of power just from the shaft removal and block swap with no other mods should be about 170HP and 160 ft/lbs of torque. Those numbers are a little concervative as the VE would go down because of the engines long stroke, but the shaft removal should be good for like 10 ponies so I estimate power would be at least that. It is very promising, and I hope to be the 1st person to do it as my block is on it's way!
