Alright I got a valve cover leak back in March shortly after an oil change. I bought the gasket from NAPA and replaced it, but in the process stripped the first couple threads in a few of the bolt holes on head it's not completely stripped just enough so that the bolts wont catch to tighten down, I replaced the gasket again with a kit ordered from the mitsu dealership, this time I didn't even get spark plug well seals replaced it and used RVT sealant and that helped with the couple bolts I can't tighten down and the leak from the valve cover turned into a very slow drip when I run the car for anymore than like 15 minutes. What really worries me is the spark plug well seals, because there is now so much oil in the wells I can hear the spark plugs actually boiling it or at least gurgling it when I go over 3k rpms. I was quoted at 350 bucks (that I REALLY don't have, I've got other debts I need to pay first) to fix the head and replace the gaskets. Basically for a tap job on the thread and new bolts/gaskets. Should I try and buy a tap and dye kit and do it myself or somehow pay the money to get it fixed and not worry about fucking something up. My car is running really shitty because of it, even after final drive mod my friends stock 99 AUTOMATIC rs still is able to beat me (granted my front bumper is now at his door as opposed to being 2 cars behind him) so I know the oil leak and spark plugs swimming in oil is DEFINITELY effecting the performance of my car. Is there any cheaper alternative I could use to fix it until I get the money to have the head tapped etc?

I think its easy to drill and tap the holes and fix it yourself, I would suggest using helicoils to maintain the origional bolt size/thread instead of drilling out the old bolts and having to tap it larger.

yea i was thinking helicoils since the bolts are rather weird and probably hard to find in a larger size, I'll try suing helicoils and see how it goes.

Yeah, I would suggest the same thing. Helicoil it. It's easy enough to do and alot cheaper than having somone else do it.
The bolts don't need to fastened really tight. Here's the fsm valve cover procedure(for after you get the holes fixed). My torque wrench doesn't go as low as 3.3 ft/lbs, so for the first round I snug the bolts in very slightly. I have had absolutely 0 leakage putting it on this way, and I've done it several times with the same gasket.
