#49936, "2000 Grand Am"

Sorry to ask this question here, but you guys are the most knowledgeable people I know and I have no where else to turn. My friend and I were driving today in his girlfriend's 2000 Grand Am and we were about to stop at a light and it died. At first we didn't even know it had, all it did was ding at us, it didn't jerk or anything. The oil light and the battery light came on and it wouldn't start. It would crank, but after a few seconds it stared shaking pretty bad. We were thinking maybe the timing belt snapped?? It acts like it's not getting any fuel. Any ideas before we start tearing into things tomorrow?? TIA guys

P.S.: Sorry for the long post

check the fuel pump. my girlfriend has a 2000 grand am. its a big piece of shit. she had the same problem, it was the fuel pump. it just died. has the drivers side power window stopped working yet? they also have a problem with the heater core going out and the powersteering pump leaking. not to mention brake problems and shitty batteries.

The window switch still works, but we just replaced the brake pads up front because they were squeeking and when we got them off, the only pad that was worn was the outside passenger side (closest to the wheel). The other three looked like they had less than 1000 miles on them. Thanks for the help, do you know of any way to test the pump before dropping the tank?? It is in the tank right?
