I put in a new engine this past weekend, but when I start it up, the idle surges.....rpms go up and down up and down up and down. Anyone ever had to fix this problem and know what the cure is? Any help is greatly appreciated emoji

what if you disconnect the battery for a few minutes? and when you put in the new engine, did you mess with any of the sensors to the tb like idle air control sensor and such? also, does this just happen on startup as the car is warming, or everytime you stop and put the car in neutral (checking to see if your cam timing was done correctly)

Well the car was started and I kept it running for only 2 mins max cause of an oil fitting that leaked. The idle surged to about 3500rpm then dropped to almost 0 and rebounded. After that it started idling between 1000 and 2500rpm back and forth and back and forth. The car has not been on the street yet. I did clean the throttle body off inside and out with a solvent so MAYBE a sensor is messed up? Gary from Howell degreed the cams when He assembled my engine. I do have the Crane #14 cams with the stroker, but I dont think that its the cams that are the problem. Any ideas???

I think I remember reading on the board once upon a time that if your TB isn't adjusted just right, the engine may "hunt" for idle? I'm thinking it would be easier to adjust the TB than timing, but that's just me...
