When does the coldness of the intake air become over kill? When temps can the intake air temp sensor detect (0-200degrees??). Whan temperatures does the ECU handle?? What is the coldest temp the car and take w\o a CEL?? For example:

Lets say I get a new AEM CAI (currently i have a shortram), wrap it in header wrap, and intall one of those phenolic spacers. Running this setup on a cold night (around 35-55 degrees), I can't image the air intake sensor reading no more that45-65 degrees.

I know cold air is denser air (more molecules). More air, more fuel, advance ignition timing all equal more power.

So when is all this overkill??

you wouldn't want to use header wrap on your CAI. the header wrap is an insulator but doesn't reflect heat. you would want to use a heat reflective material, like in this link. http://www.designengineering.com/air_tube_cover_kit.html

I remember, when i had my CAI in the winter it got down below freezing, and well everytime i would brake to a stop, the rpms just fell straight down to zero, no jolt or anything, my guess is that the air was so dense that it didnt reach the cylinder farthest from the throttle body. This got really annoying but as long as i let the engine warm up for 15 min it drove fine. a CAI wont really be as efficient for power in the cold cold temperatures-use short ram, but in summer when the engine bay is hot as hell, the CAI is perfect for sucking in the cooler rush of air under the car. trust me on this, i do know what i'm talking when it comes to physics and the like

I think if it had to do with "the colder the better" then someone would find a way to inject pure oxygen from a tank into their engine by now. That stuff can get just as cold as NO2, I believe. I think the power gain just comes from the intake charge being cooler/denser than the ambient air. It's not a constant gain, more a realtive gain.

the only reason you can't inject pure oxygen into your intake is:
it would burn so hot it would melt down your engine.
think about a cutting torch, when its just the acetylene its hot but its not shit compared to when you add the O2

Yeah, no2 is extremely stable until introduced into a combustion environment...such as a fire or an engine emoji......now, pure o2 is extremely unstable. Hell that's half of fuckin rocket fuel (the other half is pure hydrogen)

Hydrogen and Oxygen are the two most volotile elements. Nitrogen acts as a stablizer to the oxygen...this is why nitrous oxide helps your engine....pure oxygen would not only make your engine explode, but if the fire burnt back the feed line and hit the bottle you'd level everythign in a 30 foot radius around you emoji

Therefore, no2 has nothing NOTHING to do with "cooling" your air intake charge. Now, it does burn at a lower tempurature than the your fuel air charge...giving you more power...but it doesn't work by cooling down the air that comes into your engine.
