#49747, "smoke(steam) coming out PCV breather filter."
i started my car last night and their was smoke or steam coming out of my ^^^^^^^^^. i was thinking it was probably the head gasket. i checked the oil and coolant, both seem fine. no sign of coolant in the oil or anything like that. anyone have any idea what it could be? TIA

unless it's coming out all the time or you have a lot of blow by then I would not worry about it. I would think that some smoke or steam is natural to be coming out of there isn't it guy's?

i checked the compression it was 85, 90, 90, 140. i checked the torque on my head bolts and they were to spec. i checked my compression last week and it was 180 on all cylinders. anybody have any idea what could be wrong?

off topic. but do you got a built bottom end? i assume with 180 before. also are you using the 8-injector setup? Michael 99gs HRC Stage 2 @12psi Stage 3 process begins gathering parts for rebuild 2GNT Member #32 http://www.dreamwater.net/purplebeast

unfortunately no. i have a stock bottom end. i have been told that the 180 was because of the altitude here(about 1mile).
if it was a problem with the valves, what exactly would it be? valve springs? i had the head rebuilt with new valves and stem seals at around 100,000 miles because my timing belt slipped. that was 12,000 miles ago. the springs, lash adj., and rockers are not new. i don't wanna have to pull off the head but if i have to i'm gonna go ahead and rering the pistons since i have a set of new rings already.

pull the oil dipstick out, with the car running, and if its puffing air in good amounts, then its something with the pistons/rings. If you really have that low of compression, the motor should be running like complete crap. I would do another test to verify. If it comes up the same, then i would suspect valve issues.
