Design engineering inc. apparently makes a new product that looks like a nos kit but is called cry02 and increases power due to cooling the air intake charge w/co2. http://www.designengineering.com/
is it worth buying?

I've heard good things about this but it was on a turbod car and they used it on the front of the intercooler.

built turbo 99 rs-back to stock and parted out

i know a good way at the track is to get a bag of ice and lay it on ur intake manifold between runs. Gets it nice and cold. Buf as for the co2 if the rod went into ur intake and froze like it does for the turbo applications then i think it would help. I wouldnt think it would be a huge thing like nos but it should help some.

I mean the colder fuel should help the molecules of fuel and air combined better. Does ne else have a take on this?

yeah cold air would pack more densly into the combustion chamber and burn more effieciently but would a non turbo gain from just a colder air charge.

Carbon Dioxide does not burn -- its actually used in a lot of fire extinguishers -- don't you think that would be a bad thing to put in your engine given that it doesn't burn???

Just a thought.

i emailed them and they said that the co2 goes to this bulb that sticks into the intake tube, kinda like an ice cube and chills the intake charge, would this really help a nt?

It would help because as stated above the air would become dense and thus more air could fill the combustion chamber. However the real question would be is it worth it. Summit has it in their new catalog and I want to say the base system is over $200 so would the gains be worth the money is the question. The CO2 doesnt actually get fed into the intake it just freezes the bulb which the air comes in contact with and cools it. Honestly I think this could probably be duplicated very easily. You could use a paintball CO2 tank and some hose and connect it to a copper tubing loop so that the CO2 would go in one side and exit the other and freeze the loop portion of the tube. Then just some how mount the loop so that the intake air passes by it. I just dont think its worth the money. Great idea but not really a complex one.

how much horsepower gain are we talking about, also, is it harmful to run too cold air in the engine

well whoever said colder air will combine more readily with fuel is dead wrong: The colder the ingredients in a reaction, the slower they mix/react. Colder air is denser, but lets be honest here:

1) The engine has gotta be warm first for it to work

2) The gains you see will probably be similar to a slightly colder day at the track

3) Isn't this "cooling tube" just gonna create air turbulance in your manifold?

4) If you do wanna cool the manifold, you gotta be really careful, as hot metal that is supercooled cracks pretty easily, and lets not kid ourselves, the stock mani is not the strongest thing on our car...

yeah I wouldnt waste my money on this thing if I were you. As stated above results would be similar to driving on a cold day so as far as HP I would say at most maybe 3HP gained from it. Now if you were turbo cooling the intercooler maybe worth it. But like I said before this could easily be done with a paintball CO2 tank and some copper tubing. The problem would be as stated you would reduce air flow. If you have to do this take a 3inch diameter intake take som copper piping and coil it through the inside of the intake ( you would have to have an input and exhaust port on the intake itself running the pipe through the input and venting out the exhaust port. I think it would work well but the question is WHY...??? I just dont think itll be worth it.

Where's the B.S. flag!?! It would be amazing if it gained 10hp at the wheels. Not doggin you man.
Plus it's a Civic they tested it on, are they sure they didn't perform a motor swap while adding that thingy, cuz that's that's a big gain for a car with such low horsepower to begin with. Hehehe!
