#48933, "Will I harm anything if I get a UDP with my setup?"
I currently have an AEM CAI and a Greddy cat-back, I was planning on buying a header and a UDP but I was wondering if it will be hard on my car? I heard that you should not get one if you have anything that uses alot of power and I have a JL audio w7 with a 500 watt amp and my headlights and interior lights sometimes dim under hard bass hits. Would the UDP make anything go out on my car and if so what would it damage would I just need a bigger alternator or what? Any help would be appreciated. Also if anyone knows what a good header to get would be I'm open for opinions. I have heard 4-2-1 are the best for our cars but I also heard people say they suck and no good company makes them. I have been on dsmtuners.com for awhile now but am new to this site. I hope someone on here can help me?

if you get an Optima battery and your alternator is good, you won't have any problems if you add an UDP. if you start pushin over 1000watts you might wanna look into a better alternator.

if your lights are dimming under hard bass hits you should put a capacitator in your system anyways...it'll make it soudn better, and its a heullva lot cheaper than a big ass alternator, and it won't rob power from the UDP...the point of UNder driving is to not have huge alternators, its kinda like undoign what you've done....so I highly reccomend a basic cap.

I was running an Alpine V12 pushing 600 watts at 4 ohms mono to 3 10's and an Alpine that was pushing around 50 watts at 2 ohms x 4 with no problems and an UDP.

If you like drivin with the bass bumpin really loud, then when you are at a stop at idle, maybe keep your rpm's up a few hundred. This will help keep your voltage up, esp on really long lights, or prolonged periods of idleing. I noticed on my voltgauge that the volts go down with the stereo on at idle, but if i give it a little gas to raise up the rpm's a tad, then it goes back up. With just that amp you have, you should be fine. Just dont let the car idle with the music loud for a long time..

I had the same questions so I got ahold of a tech at Unorthadox. He said that it will only make a real differece at idle & only if you've got big acc (like your system). It also depends on the % of underdrive. He told me that the Unorthodox is a 20% underdrive, and getting above 30% would probably cause some alternater probs. I went ahead and ordered an AFX 30% anyway but I'm only running 100w to a JL 10W1.
