i blew a rod awhile back (no oil emoji ) and im coming into 2000 on monday. what should i be looking for? i found a guy that said he could get me a 420a for 1650 installed. its coming straight out of a eclipse but he doesnt know how many miles is on it. possible to find one cheaper? also what about the 2.4 swap? the breeze engines i think? how is that going and how easy is it to swap?

NOT WORTH IT.

Look into a built engine.

www.vtengines.com can build you one for less than that price with forged internals, balanced and blueprinted rotating assembly, and all the machine work done on state of the art machinery. I'm not joking when I say that when your block comes out of their honing machine, it almost looks like a mirror. The rings will seat almost completely when you 1st start it up... its nuts.

is this what you have? so this engine is gonna be cheaper than paying 1650 for a used one... what if had this used engine had 40xxx so miles on it? is it really that much of a waste?

EDIT: ahh $1645. nice, are these rebuilt engines or brand new? obvisously is gonna be better because the engine will be one of the two
EDIT2: jus realized its only a short block. so do i have to throw my head on there? or is it the whole engine (im an engine illiterate)? using my head may face a problem cuz im not 100% sure what i did to me engine. ive 114xxx miles on the engine and wondering if buying the used one would do ok...

That price is for the complete assembled block with forged internals only. 1st, you need to find out exactly what is wrong with the engine you have. 2nd, you need to decide what type of engine you want in the future (do you want to go faster??). Once you have this figured out, give VT a call at 517-272-7728. Ask for Nick and tell him that Matt from 2gnt sent you his way. Nick will recommend to you what he thinks will suit your needs best and give you a price. From there you will be able to make a better decision as to what you want to do. If you want a complete assembled motor, they can do that. You will need to send them your head though and possibly the block as well (not sure about that one).

I currently do not have one of their engines in my car, but I will in the very near future. Their shop is located about 10 miles away from me, so I can vouch for their awesome work. I have several friends who have bought machined blocks, heads, part, custom fabricated manifolds, etc... from them and I have yet to hear a complaint. I assure you these guys to top notch work. If they didn't, I wouldnt be chucking my howell block in the garbage and installing one of theirs emoji.
