So I've been eye up the crate engines they have and was wondering if maybe anyone knew some inside nfo as to maybe how long of a wait I could be in for if i was to order now. I'd like to get the nice new built engine and maybe go turbo later down the road. i'd like to avoid buying stuff twice. thanks for any info!

Do a search on this there have been some long discussions on it. One case of getting a block that wasn't the best core to use, and others that had no problems to speak of. Overall I Really like Howell as a vendor, Gary is a good guy(owner) but mistakes do happen. I have ordered many things from Howell with no problems what-so-ever. I have always received parts quickly.

My personal experience with Howell's built 2.0 block has been a nightmare. My experience in dealing with their customer service about it has been an even larger nightmare. If you want specifics, PM or email me and I'll go into it, but that scene has already been played out here. Like stated above, others have had no problems, but I could never recommend this motor to one of my friends.

If I were you, I would give these guys a call: www.vtengines.com. They will build you a motor with the exact same internals (or better if you want), and they use better machining equipment and it will cost you less money. They also bore their blocks using a deck plate as well. As you can see from their shop, they take great pride in their work, and are extremely intelligent and friendly.

EDIT: by the way, with the Howell block, they quoted me 4-6 weeks to get it and i received it the 9th week after my order. I know I'm not the only one who waited well over 6 weeks.

i like my 2.0 shortblock from howell so far, although i've only had it for less than 5000 miles. they said that it would take 4-6 weeks, but it took closer to 8. expect about 2 months from the time you send payment.

We try to build the best engine possible. Our engines are balanced and blueprinted. We bore and hone them with a deck plate to insure that the cylinder walls are truely straight.

If your seriously considering a turbo, put the turbo short block in. Now is the time to make that decision.

It takes about 4 to 6 weeks to build one this time of year, if you order in the busy time of the engine building season (winter) it may take a little longer, mainly because we do not take short cuts and use inferior parts. During the busy time of the season some of our suppliers have trouble supplying us with the parts in a timely manor. We are starting to build some of the more popular engine combinations ahead of time. If you catch us at the right time we may be able to ship the engine the same day now emoji
