I was wondering.. is there a de-stroker kit?..

I want to make the stroker shorter, so I can get the quick and high RPMs = more HP.

I know that that the displacement will decrease, but I don't think it will decrease THAT much..

I know that you would have to have upgraded (probably) pistons, because more speed = more friction = more heat = maybe warping.. so how would I go about that?

Now, about the tranny. I have an AT, and I know that if I had a MTX, it would've been cheaper. But I still want to keep my ATX. How about that Neon 3 speed ATX tranny? I won't have to worry about the computer, and I can set the shifts.. correct?

Is this a logical idea?

Thanks

~Tacoman

>I was wondering.. is there a de-stroker kit?..

No, but you could fabricate it yourself. It'd be pretty pricy though. You'll need a custom crankshaft and rods.

A fully built 420A is capable of handling upwards of 9000 RPMs. A shorter stroke isn't going to have any benefits over our factory stroke.

You're looking at ~1.8L.

>I know that you would have to have upgraded (probably)

The complete engine would need to be FULLY BUILT and balanced.

Correct. I don't think the Neon ATX swap is the answer here though. I'm working diligently to bring similar characteristic to our A604 tranny. We'll see.

>Is this a logical idea?

In my opinion, no. Good question though!

i was always under the impression that it was teh valve train that was limiting the rpm's of the 420a.. not the bottom end. besides, your engine will run like a honda.. and i doubt you want that.

Both the bottom and top ends need to be fully built and balanced to reach high RPMs.

What about doing that in the 2.4L?..

And then boring out the cylinder walls?

Then I would get what.. 2.2L?

You can accomplish the same thing with a 2.2L stroker and building the top end (head). You'll still be able to rev as high as you need and it'll cost less. Bottom line is that de-stroking is a good thought but a bad idea.

Our Bore and Stroke is 87.5mm X 83mm, If we had a longer stroke that was limiting our high rpm ability then we would need to destroke. Destroking the 2.4 would give you higher RPM ability but most people like the torque that the 2.4 liter give than the minimal HP gains you would see from the higher RPM destroked 2.4L The 2.2 stroker is the best of both worlds IMO, you get more torque with the extra .2L and you get the wonderful sound of power to 8000+ rpm with the right cams and airflow.

what would probably have to be done to a 2.4 for it to be able to rev to like 7300rpms safely? would it take full build and balance or would measures need to be less extreme? i'd really like a 2.4 revving that high with a turbo emoji

Yes, I do not recommend destroking a 2.0L 420A. If you would like to try it on a 2.4L... that's up to you, but I wouldn't do that either, the whole gain of going through the trouble and fabrication of installing the 2.4L is for the added torque, don't get rid of that.

I see no problem with the 2.4L reving to 7500rpm, if it's built. Remove the balancing shafts and balance the internals. I don't see the problem.
