#48093, "thermostat???"

Well, i finally got my car back from the shop like an hour ago (car had previous spun rod bearing) i was doing all kinds of drifts all over the road because it was wet and i haven't seen my baby for a month. well... long story short i was about to run out of gas and went to fill out when i noticed the temp gauge reading only a quarter ways up, i was thinking to myself "nah, this CAN'T be happening, maybe the car just needed to get use to the new (used) motor that's all", but 20 minutes into my next run, the temp guage lowered. I've had a thermostat broken in my car before and the temp reading was completely different. Before when it was broken the temp went down pretty quickly when i was driving and back up pretty quickly when i was at idle. Can this too be thermostat related??? THANKS

If it's staying cool the thermostat is probably stuck open.
