hey guys i know the SRT4 motor will not swap into our cars.

So i was thinking can their tranny swap into our cars though?

I really don't know much about ratios so i wanted to know does the SRT4 tranny has longer or shorter gears ?

now that i am going turbo for sure i want longer gears for better top end or can our tranny be moded for more top end??

thanks guys

It probably won't bolt up - the SRT4 uses equal-length halfshafts and we do not.

equal length half shafts doesn't have anything to do with the tranny. my zx2 has equals.. and i can swap in a single piece 'long' driveshaft for the passenger side if i want.. in any case..

why would you want longer gears? the eclipse is already geared to do like 160mph.. i think that's more then enough.. if anything you want shorter gears so that you can accelerate faster.

Traction, man, traction. 1st is done quick. Rediculously quick. First gear, with any mods whatsoever, feels like God kicking the back bumper. With serious mods, traction would be a real bitch. That, and 5th gear cruising is a lot nicer (and less loud) with a tall 5th and final drive. 2GNTs are only geared to 146 or so (can't remember the exact number), so 80MPH can be a bit loud.

Hey The1bill is right that is why i want longer gears. Now adays street racing is not done off the whole well not here in miami, FL most is done highway roll at 50+. So with our gearing ration and on turbo i doubt hitting 140 with stock tranny with our ratio. Stock gst tranny can hit about 135 on 4th gear that is great for top end.

Also longer gears will quiet down the car a lil on cruising on the highway and make car a lil more efficient in GAS mialage, wich i need how prices are down here reaching about 2 dollars for premium.

Because if the shafts are different chances are the casing is different, and position of differential etc... as for the gears them self I have no clue if they swap or not. If you are looking to swap out trannies and lower high speed rpm go to the Neon SOHC trans. 3.55 final drive vs our 3.94. and 5 th gear of .72 vs our .81

Is there any downside on getting the neon tranny into our cars, will the neon tranny and our tranny hold the same amount of power.

Also with installing the final drive from neon what will be the highest that we can hit 150mph ???

thanks

Are you talking about the Final Drive from the Avenger? And why would you want to go faster than 150. Because at that point you need to start filling out your will, and also suspension Im sure comes into play there. Don't see why you would wanna go an faster than 120. Unless of course you like putting yourself in danger or others in danger. Otherwise i'd work on low end accel and not top end.

Another benefit of the NVG-T850 (SRT-4 transmission) is the 300 lb/ft torque service rating on it. emoji Ours is rated for 160 lb/ft by NEw Venture Gear, and it holds 300+. Imagine what a transmission that was actually designed for that power could really handle...
