;( This car is fighting me to the bitter end. I'm on my way to school, this Eclipse Spyder wants some, so I blow past it. Hit about .5bar. Few seconds later, WHITE SMOKE!! OHNOES!!
I limp to school (it happens to be the next exit)...White smoke dissipates completely on my way into the parking lot. Pop my hood, can't see anything wrong, oil looks okay (I know where it should be when engine is hot) .. but then I notice this... ::
!!! I guess the white smoke woulda been the heat wrap shit burning up... BUT WHY?!!?
Yesterday it was some suspension part loosening up, today this... Worst of all, its my birthday.
ANywhoo... I went easy on it as I drove home,, stopped by at the local muffler shop. Guy said I should just replace it because it looks liek its mandrel bent, and I wouldn't want to have a bead of weld interfering with the flow. I think he thought that the turbo was downstream of it, when in actuality this is right after it.
So now.. What should I do? Friend of a friend has some welding skills/all the tools. I guess I could spend my birthday money on a nice downpipe... but I really don't want to. I'm about to sell it!!
Why does this happen in the first place? Excessive heat?? It just makes no sense to me... I don't have an EGT gauge on it yet...
What are your suggestions? And... reccommend me a nice downpipe while you're at it.. lol

Good penetration will NOT have any slag on the inside and won't disrupt anything. It looks like the Star DP in the pic. I have never liked the fitment of my Star DP and have changed twice now. I would have a flex section put in it and that should fix the problem of it ever cracking. Half way around sounds like a stress crack to me.

I've heard the heatwrap can cause this easily. The heat stays in the pipe instead of radiating out in to the surrounding air and the heat causes it to crack.

YEah there was a post on this earlier...I asked if I shoudl heat wrap my headers instead of the dinky heat shield that comes stock..was told that heat wrapping voids the warranty on most headers and causes them to crack...sorry dude
