for higher compression... I know it will be minimal but every little bit counts right....

I had my head milled when I rebuilt the engine. It was milled so that it would seal properly against the block, not for higher compression, but it IS possible. I'm not sure how much they took off though.

SEA97GS has a milled head and raised his compression one point. He only posts once in a blue moon, so you might wanta e-mail him. I sure has some valuable info.

If you mill past .060 then you will need adjustable cam gears to get the belt adjusted correctly. With more of mill than that the belt will be off more than a tooth.

If you are going to mill for raised compression I suggest adjustab;le cam gears to bring the car back into time (at least exhaust side, because opf cam sensor)

why dont u just add high comp pistons instead of milling the head....you should only really mill the head if you have to resurface for the headgasket....Chrysler spent alot of time specifically engineering those combustion chambers for proper combustion etc. etc., i dont know if i'd mess around with that unless you take it to a very proffessional engine builder.

Because milling the head is a cheap alternative to $500 pistons plus rings, plus gaskets, and you might as well do rods while you're in there... BUt yes pistonsa are a better way to do it.

^^^^^ Exactly.....

I was just thinking about getting another head and porting it and I thought since I will have it off anyway I may aswell get everything I can done to it.

Yeah I'm not sure if the rough idle is due to the milled head, or because the head was also ported. I think the porting probably had more to do with it.

Can you staiten out the idle with adjustable cams and an SAFC? What is causing the idle to be so rough??

I do have adjustable cam gears, and I can adjust them so that the idle is not so bad. But I think it's a combination of things that have to be tuned in order to get it to run right. I have an auto though so it seems to be worse than a manual with same mods...

Gotcha....By the way I love the color on your car man!!

Did you feel some nice gains after the head work was done?? Also what did RRE charge you for the work if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks for the info all.

For porting on a head I'm not sure I'd use RRE. They know there stuff inside and out on the 4G63 and turbo set ups. To port a head for NA application is a different story, I've always had the feeling they took a bit too much out of Marcus' head. Which would be great for a turbo frcing the air in, but I think intake and exhaust gas velocity was slowed down too much by it. But that's just my opinion (I could easily be wrong, wouldn't be the first time).

I think it's a big thing to get the exhaust cam back into spec, since the cam angle sensor sits on it. All the good gains from adjustable cam gears seemed to come when the exhaust cam was left alone. So returning the exhauist cam to spec when you mill I believe to be important, at least as a starting point to tuning.
