well recently got a 99RS as an early graduation present(old 88 civic flunk emission test so traded it in)

I know very little about car tuning/modding being more of a computer geek, but am looking to add some more HP on the budget.

I've been reading up on the 2gnt site and now I'm interested in adding a CAI and a GS-T exhaust.
can anyone recommend a fairly good but also cheap CAI to get? and how much HP can I expect to gain from swapping the Stock airbox to a CAI? oh yeah, the CAI need to be street legal too.

also how much HP will i get from swapping to a GS-T exhaust? and where can I find some for cheap?

will be doing both install myself, actually with a friend who have some fair amount of modding/tuning experience(he swap Stock civic engine to integra engine as a hobby)

lastly my 99RS have a auto tranny(I wanted a manual but a condition to getting the car was that my mom may have to drive it and she don't know how to drive a stick shift) makes a jerk/noise when shifting from drive back to netrual while stationary. It doesn't do that while you are moving faster than 20mph, you can barely feel it when under 20mph and noticeable when stationary, does anyone know why its doing that or does it indicate a larger problem? It doesn't jerk/make noise when shifting from neutral to drive though.

That tranny problem just sounds like the car going into gear. Check your fluid level make sure it's nice and level. Also check the color of your fluid. It should be a rich red color, almost a "clear pink". You may just need a complete flush - MAKE SURE YOU USE MOPAR ATF+3. Don't use anything else EVER. I substituted for DEXRON/MERCON III and I paid for it severely (new transmission). It's debatable if that was the cause of my transmission blowing up but I'm almost positive it is. From now on ill be using MOPAR.

For a cold air intake, just snag one off of ebay. Or check out the for sale pages on here, every now and again you can find a nice AEM for pretty cheap. Lots of guys go turbo and get rid of all their old NA bolt ons. As for a GS-T muffler, frequent dsmtuners.com or dsmtalk.com and see who is selling one. As many people will get rid of that once they get a cat-back for their turbos.

Any other help you need IM me on AOL at ForNow082402 if you want.

For the CAI, i was browsing on Ebay earlier and came across one that say street legal CAI CARB approved or something to that effect and that most other CAI are not street legal, I'm not a car buff so I really don't know the difference and from the 2gnt stages pages they say both the CAI and GS-T muffler are easy to do. I want the car to be street legal and pass emission tests and such.

I wonder though how increasing airflow to the engine would increase emission so much as to make them not street legal?

There isnt really a "non street legal" cold air intake. Pretty much any "ebay" intake will be street legal. Don't worry about not being able to pass emissions. I can 100% guarantee adding on an intake won't effect your emissions.

There is no problem with a CAI that the wonderful sniff test will fail you. A lot of us have far more mods and still pass emissions. The only thing you will want the CARB certification for, is if you have a visual inspection as part of your emissions test.
