As many of you know, XtremeRS has been assembling a new motor recently, and I have been helping him out by having all the machine work done at a shop here in Lansing. This shop is BY FAAAAAR the most badass machine shop that I have ever seen personally. All of their equipment is state of the art (average machine cost is about $100k) and their shop is so clean, you could eat off the floor. The name of this place is VT Competition Engine Development and their website is www.vtengines.com (click here to view machining equipment http://www.vtengines.com/about.html). I highly suggest that you browse through the site and see the shop for yourself.

I know several people at the shop and am friends with one of the guys that works there. I spoke to them about building engines for people on 2GNT and they were quite enthuisiastic about it. In fact, they said that if they could get only 4 people to call in and show serious interest, that they will purchase a torque plate for boring out our blocks. They can balance, assemble, bore, align hone (with diamond abrasives), dyno, tap, yada yada yada. If you order parts through them, they give nice hookups on machine work as well. To name a few of the brands they carry: JE, Clevitte 77, Eagle, Crower, Ferrea, Weisco, and much more. They said that they would be very interested in building pre-assembled blocks like howell does if they can find a supplier for core blocks. They quoted me a price for one, and just so you know, it was quite less than Howell's price.

Their service is unlimited when it comes to engine work. If you need it done, they can do it on both the block and the cylinder head. This includes any installation, fabrication (header exhaust mani for turbo guys), and even standalone installation and tuning (they are an authorized dealer of and specialize in installing and tuning the AEM EMS).

These guys could be a major asset to this board if you guys choose to work with them. If you have any questions, call them at 517-272-7728.

I'd be interested in giving them a shot, but I won't be doing a rebuild until I hit 100k probably (about to hit 60k right now). Still, the more people who are willing to do work for the 2GNTer's, the better. It can only mean better quality and lower prices across the board.

thanx for the info Matt. wow it looks like that company does it all. Quote from their site:

"VT Competition Engine Development custom designs and utilizes existing installation kits to meet the needs of your vehicle for the Turbocharger System of your choice."

How cool is that? I wonder what they could do with our current kits. Have you invited them to check out this site? If not, do so!

They have taken a good look at the HRC kit in my car and were very quick to point out everything that they can improve upon. I.E. clock the turbo and avoid the 90 degree bend right out of the compressor, equal length runner exhaust mani, 30 lb injectors... If I had the cash, I would definately go for the header and clocking the turbo, but as of now, im poor hehe. I will give them the site addy soon and have someone stop in and say hello. Before I did that though, I wanted to gauge interest.

yea, that 90 degree turn out of the compressor was the first thing I noticed about the HRC kit when I first saw it. someday when I have an income I think this will be the rebuilder I will go with. Primarily b/c they sound very professional, and enthusiasm about the 420a is all good

They would make it better by changing the piping from the turbo compressor to the intercooler inlet. By rotating the comnpressor 90 degrees, the outlet would be facing down so that you could use a 45 degree bend instead of the 90.

If they would machine a stroker crankshaft I'd buy 2 of them in a heartbeat... along with rods. I wish howell would do this!

Woh, i see that they build stroker engines for hondas, 4g63's, and nissans. Are they thinking about a 420a stroker too?

Not to take the spotlight off howell, but there's nothing wrong with a little friendly competition.

I would be interested in their rebuilt bottom ends, but not anytime soon. Always happy to support new companies who want to help out 2gnt'ers.
