was wondering if i could use 1/4 in tubing as the oil sending line and then tap into a smaller line before the gauge. the reason i'm asking is cause i had my plastic line get a hole in it at the track yesterday. luckly i was checking the engine out while waiting to race. so i just cut the line crimped it a few times and then taped it and secured it so i could run..... i just had to check my oil after every run.... no i don't like electric the mech is 10x's better any pro will tell you that too.... cause if your pressure drops you know instantly don't have to wait for a signal to be sent..... it was my fault that it went but i was wondering if anyone had done this.. i'll talk to jeff hill this week and ask him.

WhatI recommend if you wantto use a cpper line, which you can. My buddy have copper tubign on his Camero. I would still use a section of the nylon line. Run and bend you copper tubign from the inside out along the firewall, and bend towards the sender. Then the last run from the block to the copper run as the nylonf line.So as the motor rocks back and forth you don't bend the copper line. Over time you could kink the copper tubing or worse weaken it to the point where the kink starts to leak. But with a small section of teh nylon line run carefully, you should solve this.

But the sending unit isn't as accurate and doesn't react as fast, because of the electronics, and calibrations. The mechanical gauge is operated by the pressure, there is no delay.

I personally think a "good" electronic gauge will be just as accurate, fast, and reliable as a "good" mechanical gauge. Either one is truly only as good as its design and assembly. They are in different price classes though. Mechanical is the standard. Electronic is the new guy that has to compete with it. Some manufacturers may sacrifice performance in their electronic gauges to bring the price down near their mechanical counterparts. I would always prefer a good electronic gauge, but often can't justify the cost.

cool thanks.... i was going to run the copper line to the firewall then tee off in the flex line..... i got all the parts at work so i'll be doing it very shortly.... right now i can't even see my pressure cause i clipped the line while i was at the track so i could continue to race.....
