#4511, "cleaning K&N filter???"

What's it take to clean the filter from my AEM Cold Air Intake? How long should it take? Do I have to oil it after cleaning? Thanks.

Brandon it's the easiest thing to do man. Just buy a K&N cleaner kit. All you do is take the filter off, soak it with the K&N cleaner, let it sit 10 minutes, run it under tap water (not high pressure water) let dry, re-oil with K&N oil. It must be re-oiled to trap the dirt. Takes about 30 minutes for the filter to dry. I usually either do it when I am changing to oil or washing and waxing the car because that is the longest it sits there. See ya later. Rob

K&N filters are supposed to go 50k miles or so before cleaning is needed. But to clean it, buy a K&N filter cleaner kit. Its 10 dollars at any autoparts store. Just follow directions on the box.

50k... hahahahaha. Cretainly not with where my filter sits at the end of my cold air pipe, that thing gets so filthy so quick it's not even funny. I do the drop in K&N in my Neon every 15k.

I clean my filter on my AEM CAI every 3,000 miles when changing the oil and anytime between that if I feel like it. Doesn't hurt to clean it.

Yeah actually it does. You can tell the difference when you clean it. When I first got my CAI it was winter time and it got gumed up with all sorts of crap. It was BLACK and I dont mean like tinted black, I mean so black that it looked like a pile of mud on it. When I would drive like 10-15mph on my residential street with children at play, the car would actually starve for air it was so dirty.

Thanks for the help. I've had mine on there for probably 10,000 miles or so now, so it's pretty dirty. Looks like I'll be headin to western auto tomorrow (if they're open).

Also, after applying the cleaner, I tend to put a hose on the inside of the filter, so the water goes outwards - that way it doesn't drive the dirt into the filter, but out of it...
