Hey guys! Here in michigan its been about 0-20 digrees for a couple months now. Lately my engine has been runnin rough in the morning when i first start it up. After idleing for a minute or two its fine. I just changed the oil, and about a month ago i took it to the shop to have them check the compression. all was good there. It almost seems like the engine is not geting enuf oil circulation at first. I installed a hrc stage 2 with fmic. I hope i didnt crack a ring, i may have to do another comp test to see. has anyone seen this type of thing before? btw its a 98 eclipse rs. The 420a is a whole new world for me, being a novice and used to the 4g63 in my 1G. It was about 32 this morning and it still did it, so im geting worried. thanks in advance!!

Nope, i can't recall ever hearing an knock's or ticks from the engine. The engine sounds great, untill i give it a little gas and it sputters. If the lifters are not coming up what could cause that? what would be the best way to test it, and is it easy to repair? thanks for your help!

A sure fire way to know if you cracked a piston ring land, is to pull the oil dipstick out when the car is running. If you see/feel any vapor puffing out, then you have some baaddd blowby. Do a compression test just to check the current state of the engine. Oh yeah, what part of Michigan are you from? I'm out here in Grand Rapids...

I just replaced the plugs and wires. no dice. my bi-monthly tune ups always come with new plugs. for a buck and a half a piece it cant hurt. btw, thier gapped at .035. no time to check compression today, but ill post the problem, if i ever find it!

What weight oil are you using?
If it's just a minute or two for the cra to warm up, I doubt there's really a problem. When it's that cold I let the car warm up for a couple minutes anyway, heat the fluids and let her run before driving anyway.

Mobil synthetic 10w-30. I just worry because it wasnt doing this before. Its getting warmer here, so ill see if its the temp. Is that a good oil to use? ive been using it in my dsm's for 7 years. thanks

What I'm doing with my daily driver (420A Neon) is 5W30 in the winter and 10W30 in the summer. The heavier oil doesn't circulate as easily when it's cold. The Elcipse will be getting 10W30 all year round, since she doesn't see the street much in cold weather.

aaahhh. I can feel air coming out of the oil dipstick holder. But thier dosent seem to be any moisture or vapor coming out. am I ok? or is this not normal? I just waiting for a reason to do a bottom end rebuild. heh

Do a compression test to be sure. I have some good puffs coming out my dipstick tube now, because i cracked a ring land on my #3 psiton. I got 115 psi of comression on that cylinder.

A small amount of air coming out is normal for stock rings or any rings that have gaps. If you were using total seal gapless rings, then you shouldnt feel much at all. If the puffs are excessive like they are with Matt's, then you definately will see a compression drop in one of those cylinders. B.T.W. I live in East Lansing MI.
