#44708, "Rebuild and cam question(long)"

Well my cars milage is getting up there and after 2 long years at community college im going off to school next fall. I plan on doing a rebuild sometime soon. My questions are: 1.Is the Howell bottom end kit anygood? I know that people have had complaints about thier short blocks but I read somewhere, where people were trashing the the bottom end kit also. Or any suggestions. 2. If I decide to get cams at the same time could I get the crane #16's or any other drag cam and in the future run nitrous with that cam? 3.I live fairly close to ARD, do you think that this would be a good place to have this rebuild done? OR if you live in the Houston area and know of another place that might be better lmk. 4. Lastly, How much do you think this would cost? Thank you.

Howell have a very well put together kit, the parts in it are very good quality.

I'm not in the area, but would trust ARD to do the work down there.

Yes you can use the #16 with your nitrous... it's all in tuning and fuel.

The cost depends on what you have done... how much machine work you need... boring oversized pistons etc... plus it seems mahcine shop charges vary upon area.

let me ask you this. Should I get the 4 over bore or the 2. Im assuming that the 4 would give me more displacement but is it worth it? Thanks for the response man

I would say only bore .020" over if you are planning on nitrous, keep those cylinder walls as thick as possible to absorb the heat, bore it out to ensure cylinders are round and honed/ready to go. The gain in dispacement isn't going to be that great... I would say to look at the 2.2L stroker kit from Howell though.

I talked to ARD and they gave me a rough esstimate of 1450$ to $1650. Thats with the internals and all. Thats not that bad. Its a 150$ more to get ceramic coating. Do you think that this is worth it?
