Ok,

I other day I went to one of the local mechanics (the best one in the area, and also my friends dad), and I told him that I thought that my water pump was going out. Well, we went outside and looked under the hood, and there was anti-freeze on the valve cover, and a few other places. BTW, I had just put my fac. thermostat back in it, and filled it up b4 I took it over there.

He quoted me $160 for the labor, and he could get my parts, or I could get them myself. I called AutoZone, and they said a new WP was $49.99 and had a lifetime warranty. I also asked him about replacing the timing belt and tensioner pulleys, and he will do it for free since it has to be taken off and put back anyway.

Where would be the best place to get everything that I need? Does anyone have any price quotes on any of this items?

I was thinking about doing it myself to save the 160 bucks, but should I just let them do it instead??

changing the timing belt on our car is the biggest SOB ever! I still don't like other people to touch my car tho, so I would still do it myself. $160 can get you some cool stuff for the car ya' know?

you can get the timing belt at autozone for $40, make sure its the goodyear gatorback one. tensioner pulley i got for $75 at a place locally. i'm sure you could find one for about that.

Thats a pretty good deal!! $160 for all of that...nice.. I wish I had somebody to do that for me... All three belts(timing, alt, and water/psteer) should be about $60~$70 at autozone. The tension&idle should cost you about $150 for both at dealers. Its kind a strange... because the water pump stuff is outside the cam gear cover... timing belt/pullies are inside it... Because you don't have to take that cover off to change your water pump..

take off motor mount, loosen water pump/alternator, pully adjuster, UDP(crankshaft), water resivor, and the hardest part was to pull out two long bolts that bolts on to the timing cover/motor mount thing... Since I changed timin belt and went through again to install cam gears... I can do it one day now... but not something I want to do every weekend!! Good luck!

Man, if I remember right (i dont have my timing belt covers on, took em off long ago), the water pump pulley sprocket that rides on the timing belt, is going through the back timing belt cover. There is just a hole in the timing belt cover for the water pump pulley. So in order to replace the water pump, you need to remove the back half of the timing belt cover. No biggie though, its only like 5 more bolts..Then the water pump is fully accessable, and then all you need to do is take out the bolts that hold the pump onto the block, and pull it off. Pretty easy to do, esp if you got far enough along after taking the timing belt off. Its cake compared to getting that damn motor mount plate out
