they use them in race motors....and they will defintly increase power output....of course, i dont know how well this specific one would work...it doesnt sound too well made if they are telling you to check clearences before installation.

How does oil slamming into 12 gauge mild steel have less friction than oil churning against itself? emoji

There's something similar in my shop manual... called a crankcase baffle. Neither of my engines had it, but it goes down in between the rods and the block. Looks like it keeps oil from splashing around the engine, rather than decreasing friction. Dunno.

i would never buy something that said crank SCRAPER lol, just sounds like a problem waiting to happen. Also it looks like a pos homemade sheetmetal thing.

like i said...race motors have them....and they arent the same thing as baffles....Baffles keep the oil at the bottom of the pan near the pickup area and also keeps the oil from froathing. The crank scraper is designed to remove oil from the crankshaft with lowers the amount of energy needed to move the oil...

seems like a desperate cry for minimal power as far as our cars go

also helps aeration. point is they work though, check clearences b/c you want it RIGHT next to the crank. not a gimmick. hp gains are better on V8s b/c the crank has so many counterweights.... they do work on our cars but as posted earlier... desperate plea for hp on *our* cars. id do it when i go 10.5:1

There's this thread on dsmtuners thats been going on for a few weeks now. The site is down right now, but here's the link http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=24636&goto=newpost

This guy(don't know the name cause the site is down right now) got one of these. He's supposed to install it this weekend...and give a review to the thread of how well it works. In every single thread I've seen on this particular product - noone has actually fessed up to actually using it. It's always "hey what do you think about this?"....so I'm anxious to hear the guys review. Yeah, they work well for the V8s, but we have an I4.

EDIT: Is it me, or is DSM Tuners ALWAYS down? I mean last week, it was great, they finally fixed the search part. But now, the WHOLE forums is down emoji , but I do appreciate all the work (and money) that goes into putting up the forums (and 2GNT too), anyways...

How much power do they add?

I mean, if it adds like 20 horses, then I'll buy it, and put it on in a month, when it gets warm enough (its frickin 3 degrees outside, really!)..

But yeah, its only $50, and if it adds the same power as an intake, then I'd get it..

They said that you just need to drop the oil pan, and install it between the pan and block, can anyone say anything about that?

But I might get one of these soon (not 100% sure though, I want to see how much power they add first)..

I may try installing one of these, I'm rebuilding anyway so why not? emoji I'm still waiting to hear from the guy at DSMtuners who said he was going to install his yesterday. Although I admit I am nervous about the name "crank scraper" emoji

I don't think it ACTUALLY scrapes the crank. I think it floats close to the crank.

both have approximately the same length crank, and a I4 will be slowed down by extra mass much easier then a V8.. so ya might want to review your statement. i'm betting it'll work better on an I4 motor then a V8, just because of the power differences and that they have close to the same length crank.

no no no no no.
we have half the counter weights. that means we have half the surface area on the crank for oil to collect and slow the crank.

half the counter weights doesn't mean half the surface area, not by a long shot. but even though they most likely do have more surface area they produce much more power and therefore percentage wise.. are probably affected less.. I'm just trying to say that it might give as good a gain, or better on an I4 as opposed to a V8 (by percentage basis).
