OK, so my probe came yeterday, and like the intsructions said, i drilled the 1/4" hole on the side of the fourth runner. everything was going perfect. (i bought the stupid autometer probe with the clamp that you wrap around the pipe then tighten.) since our downpipe is squarish, i couldn't really tighten the probe in tight enough. i started my car and everything works fine, but there is an obvious exhaust leak coming from the hole since i was unable to tighten the probe all the way. my car sounds like detroit muscle gone bad. what should i do? i think i'm going to try to return the probe to summit in exchange for another one. do they make one's the you tap and screw in? because all i'm seeing is weld on ones, and i really don't feel like getting a piece welded on. can you help me out. which probe do you own of the following? (so i can order the right one.)

I bought the Autometer Lunar Series EGT gauge and probe. It came with two different options to install:
1) Drill a hole in the exhaust manifold and use the clamp. There should be a ceramic washer in the kit that goes on the exhaust manifold before you insert the probe and clamp it. This is supposed to stop exhaust leaks.
2) Drill and tap. There should be a connection piece that has threads at both ends. I believe it is 1/4" NPT standard thread. One end of this piece goes into the exhaust manifold and then the threads that stick out are used to attach the probe - that is what the nut is for on the probe.
I have it installed in runner #4 using the second method and haven't had a problem. Make sure you don't cross the threads when tapping because it would suck to have to buy a new manifold.
