hi. well my talon overheated to about a millimeter under the H today. ugh. VERY hot. if i drive straight and fast enough ill drop to half way..... but slow down and it shoots right back up. also, when it gets this hot, the a/c stops giving out cold air. it stas on but the air is normal and hot.

besides the normal check the thermostat stuff, coul the a/c mean somethign else? thanks.

Hi. so what about the radiator fan should I check? anything in particular? Just if it spins?

If speed (airflow) brings the temp down it means that your fan is not triggering - but this can be cause by the thermostat not opening, I am not sure about our cars, but on my old car (89 CRX) I think the fan was triggered by hot coolant entering the lower radiator hose, coolant can only enter there if the thermostat opens - so give it a shot. 2003 VW GTI 1.8t.. I used to have a 95 Eclipse but well...water sucks.

Everybody here must think i'm a know it all. but this has been my prob since i've owned my GS. First (this is what i did), check your upper rad hose for a leak, because it probably is dripping somewhere and right onto the fan realy switch. which probably rotted it out. replace that if your fan turns on but tem p still goes up replace the thermostat. i flush and filled just to make sure everything was perfect. if it's still overheateing tell me what you did to fix because mine's been doing it for 3 years now. All fans work, brand new thermostat,water-pump is fine.

does your coolant overflow from the reserve tank onto the engine mount?

if so, check to see if there still is a hose from the cap of your reserve tank to the bottom of it.

I had the same problem for about a year till I realized that.

ALL great info to check. Also check for blockage of the radiator. Have you put anything in front of it or changed front facias that can cause an airflow blockage at lower speeds? Check your hoses. If they are old ( five years or so), think about replaceing them. They can look great on the outside but can be bad on the inside, causing a slowdown in the flow of fluid thru them. I REALLY think it is a fan problem.
One thing, a bad or worn water pump can do it if the vanes are bad and it is not really pumping fluid like it should. Sometimes they get so corroded that they can not pump the proper amount of coolant thru. That would be the last resort though as it is not a COMMON thing to find.
ONE other thing to check. IS IT REALLY OVERHEATING? Maybe your gauge is reading wrong. Check ALL Possibilities before jumping in.

Well Greg, Mine is too. but something else is causing it because as soon as I get the gasket replaced it lasts about 2 days and i'm back to over-heat. something is either causing the gasket to blow or my car is posessed.
(no warped head, no cracked block, water-pump was tested and working perfectly, brand new thermostat.- Do you think maybe i should get a lower therm? i think 195 is too high anyway.)

No.. i have a separate hose that comes from the top of the tank i have it positioned to drop down away from all vital engine parts.
This car is a puzzle not to be solved i swear.
