#43433, "is anybody else's car doin this? please help, probably really dumb ?..."

hey guys ok my car has been acting sluggish the last few days when i go to accelerate. i go to push down on the accelerator and it goes, but its sluggish and is not revving smoothly like it normally did. its almost like its sputtering, going to 2k, then dropping down a hair, and then continuing on but is very sluggish. i talked to my neighbor who knows a lot about cars and he came over and listened to my car when it is idle and there is no unusual noises. he said i should get a bottle of dry-gas and see if that helps and he thinks thats the problem. he said its because of this time of year here in pa (its been very cold) and said since i keep my car outside there is probably some moisture in the engine/gas tank and said the dry gas should help. is anyone else having this problem? if so what did you do to solve it? does it seem like it's something little like my neighbor said, or does it seem like it could be something bigger? any info would be appreciated. TIA

steve

im gonna try this dry gas first and see if that clears it up, thanks for the info though. do you think the wires/plugs would cause that though? i thought it would be more of a fuel problem. thanks for ur help i appreciate it very much.

wont matter if your at or not....if its not gettin spark for some reason, you wont have power cuz you wont get a very clean burn. yours sounds exactly like what i had, but try what you want.

yeah, most likely a plugs/wires problem, thats a fairly cheap fix. Also you might want to replace your fuel filter just to be on the safe side (if you haven't done it). An old/clogged fuel filter may eventually lead to hesitation

ITs just cause its cold out, and check your tranny fluid level, mine was doing the same thing and I was a little low on tranny fluid.

Our cars are supersensitive to tranny fluid levels etc..

Also when the tranny fluid is colder the shifts are changed up a little by the TCM

alright guys i got the plugs/wires today and i will install them tonite w/ my dad, however i was driving and i got a CEL light, this problem was here for 2 days and this is the first time the CEL was on at all. im gonna install the plugs/wires and then go get a diagnostic at autozone...hopefully that along with the fuel injector filter will clear everything up and i'll get a new fuel filter when the winter starts to end and spring comes. i really hope that i dont have to replace the coil now...i've been saving up for a body kit!! thanks again for the help though guys.
