Ok, my car's been off the road for like 5 months now... spun a bearing and now the crankshaft is out of round and a rod put a hole in the block. A couple months ago, i bought another engine and some other spare parts (cat back exhaust and 4 wheels) for $500, but due to the cold weather and my super busy schedule, I haven't done much with it yet. The engine I bought is gonna need a little work tho... the oil pan and oil pickup tube need to be replaced and at least one of the motor mounts is broken. What else should I do while I have the engine sitting in the garage?

It orginally had around 70,000 miles on it, but was rebuilt w/ .40 over forged internals and has 4,000 miles on it since the rebuilt. The car it was in was totalled and the kid decided to part it out.

The engine in my car now has about 115,000 miles on it (1996 GS). Only mods are CAI and canister exhaust.

I was thinking i should get the intake manifold and TB bored out, UDP, new timing belt, oil pump, and maybe solid motor mounts. Anything else I should do... I wanna keep my cost down, but at the same time, I want to do whatever I can while I have the engine out and accessable.

Anyone know anyone who can help me tune this in the Pittsburgh area (Greensburg)?

What do you intend to do with this car? if you are going to stay n/t, I would consider upgrading your head with PT lifters and maybe some crane springs (they are both relatively inexpensive). especially if you have a obdII car and would be thinking of getting an afx ecu later to raise your rev limit.
Cams are a little expensive, but cam gears (fidanzas) aren't too bad.

I would hate to be in your position. what to do with a bullet-proof engine.

I do plan on going turbo (stage ii at least) when i get the cash, but how much $$ for those Cam gears and where can I buy em?

Also, are there any special oil pans (hold more oil maybe?) that I can get since I have to buy one anyway? I noticed that there is a small crack in the block where the oil pan bolts on. I was thinking I could maybe weld or use some type of hard puddy (jb weld.. etc) to fix this. Anyone see any problems with this idea? The kid who took the engine out of the car, dropped it. I'm probably going to start working on it some more tomorrow.

Should be interesting. if the crack is in a non essential area, you should be fine.

If you are planning on going turbo. then you could spend your time and money on mods that will help to get more gains from boosting. a little work on your head and intake couldn't hurt here. cam gears could be a good investment here, but I would wait on cams until you get the turbo in. then you can get the proper cams for your setup. fidanzas are sold at howell's

I noticed in your sig that you dont have an upgraded exhaust. this is a must for any turboed car. this would be the first thing that I would invest in, before anything else.

If you are really going to go turbo any time soon, then other than the exhaust and maintenance items, I would wait until you are boosted to upgrade much else. save you $$ for the turbo IMO.
